Well perseverance is well worth it. The VW customer care and dealership customer care has brought the cost down to 100% labour covered and 70% parts. Chuffed and credit where it was due with the reps I dealt with. Booked in for next wednesday so hopefull cool air con before the weather goes sh*te

I picked up my 05 Mk5 earlier this week and guess what, air con not working. Spoke to my local VW main dealer yesterday and was quoted £99 for a re-gas with dye added to check for any leaks. I can live with this if that's all it needs but after reading some of the horror stories on here and elsewhere I'm beginning to feel very pessimistic. If so many are prone to failure WTF is VW doing putting sub standard parts in a quality car? If it is the compressor that's buggered then sod it I'm not going to bother for the 3 or 4 weeks a year it'd be needed.

05 GTi (54k miles) total compressor failure, luckily covered under warranty - invoiced total was over £1500 for the work!

My car 2008. I think my compressor is failing. After lying all night can take a few miles before it cuts in, intermittent. Gas is ok.
2008 Octavia vRS K04'd , Forge twintercooler, Evoms, Autotech uprated pump, full Milltek exhaust 324bhp on JKM's rollers ;-)

I wish mine was covered under warrantee but air con not covered. When I originally test drove it the weather was quite mild and it seemed to be pumping out chilled air, however on the couple of hot days we've had this week it does nothing but blow hot air back in :scared:
