Help!!.. Car is covered in Tar.

Travelling on the road from Filey to Bridlington..With no warning save for a couple of roadworks signs they had just Tarred and Gritted the road.Now the noise was horrendous and thoughts quickly turned to the mess it was going to end up in.Arrived home after a week to clean the car.It is covered in very thick Tar spots..The Pescaras I can deal with but I am unsure about the bodywork.I have gently cleaned it with the Megs mitt so I need to know is there anything I can buy off the shelf that will deal with the tar..Every panel is covered with the exception of the front and bonnet.The worse area is the boot,its like someone has sprayed it on...Quick rather crappy phone pic.

I have absolutely no idea..Never used a clay bar..The last GTI was white.The few tar spots I got come out with some elbow effort but this I don't know.Thanks for the reply friend.

I thought of dabbing a soft rag into my lawnmower petrol tank but maybe white spirit will do the trick..Cheers Tony,having  adrink then I,m off to give it a go.

You can get Megs claybar from Halfords for about £20 with the quik detailer as well, good stuff to remove stubborn surface marks.
Or if you are at Inters there will be loads of sellers with some.

Just buy some tar remover. Spray or Dab it on, leave for a min and then wipe off :) Claying after will get any remaining. Meguiars do a cheapish kit. Good excuse to cleanse car, polish and wax as well ;)

You can buy Autoglym Tar Remover at Halfrauds.

If there is lots of it I would wash the car. Cover in Tar remover, remove and wash again. Bear in mind the Tar remover will remove any traces of wax where it touches.  :smiley:

+1 for AG tar remover. Not as good as tardis. As Hedge has said, spray on. I prefer to agitate with a soft detailing brush, the rinse off. Any stubborn stains can be removed by applying the tar remover to a microfibre cloth and doing "spot removal". You can follow up with a claybar if required and a quick hand polish, apply the wax and you're done.  :happy2:

Tried a bit of white spirit on the skirts,that worked well cleaned them up luverly (Cheers Tony Danza).As for the bodywork,I will follow advice and visit Halfies tomorrow AM.
