GTI - Backbox
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:06:02 pm »
Hi Guys,

Please can somebody tell me if a standard GTI backbox would fit my 1.4 TSI, currently my pipe/s are hidden behind the standard valence. I am having my R32/GTI side skirts painted this week but thought it might be an idea if I also orderd the rear GTI valence and have the top part painted at the same time.

The only thing is then I could not really afford to get a Miltek and it would look silly with a hole for the exhausts with no exhaust, so for the time been could I fit a GTI rear back box while I put together some money?

im in the same situation as you mate. ive heard it will fit but needs modding slightly. any decent exhaust place should be able to fit it for you. im just getting prices for a custom back box/tailpipes and its coming to around £180+, so will see what happens.

let us know how you get on

This is interesting, I realise this is a Mk5 GTI forum and not a MK5 TSI forum so not everybody is going to know the answer to my question. If it possible to fit this then I would look for a used GTI backbox until I am in a position for either a SuperSprint or Miltek system.

See if there are any other replies,

Nick

Hi Nick
The GTi pipe will indeed go on the 1.4 TSi - although there is a small caveat.
The diameters are different - the dia on the GTi is 65mm as opposed to 60mm on the 1.4 so a step down reducer will be required.
The system comes off in one piece so it needs to be cut (can e-mail a picture if you pm me with e-mail address) to enable the step down to fit correctly.
If you need help let me know.

Morning Nige,

Thanks for the reply, this is very useful information indeed. Is the step down reducer something that can be easily obtained, such a shame you are in Merseyside otherwise I would have been up to you in a shot. Although I am not ruling it out at all.........

Nick can I suggest you edit your post and remove your email address to avoid spam bots getting it.
You can still PM Nige your email address if he hasn't yet seen your post.
