RNS510 A model
« on: June 28, 2011, 10:29:51 am »
Hi,

Apollo13 on here done me a big favour and obtained the details of the rns unit fitted in my car  :happy2: Cheers

It turned out to be an earlier A model running 1000 software and 6317 map

I am planning on updating the unit, got a 7no gateway on order.

When this takes place will it erase the music on the HDD?
What type of SD card is the best one to use? SD or SDHC? have read about earlier software only uses smaller cards
If the music will get wiped when the unit is upgraded is there a way of copying from HDD to sd card? I suppose before update it will only allow a smaller card?

Many thanks

George

You may find going from 1000 to 2760 firmware erases the HDD etc. So ensure you have a map disc and your music backed up. I haven't tried copying music from the HDD and im not sure if it's possible or not.

With regards to SD card i would use SDHC and ensure it is a fairly quick one (class 6 or higher will be fine) not necessary but it can sometimes cause delays in changing tracks etc especially on the higher capacity ones. You will be able to use upto and including 32Gb SDHC cards

For info on how to do the firmware upgrade follow this

Hi,

Thanks for the info, I have found lots on copying the music to the unit but nothing the other way.

The unit was allready in the car when I got it and as there is some stuff I like on there so the plan was get everything off onto sd card, delete what I didnt want, add my own and organise it a bit better then put it back after the update.
