A lovely day ruined by the DVLA
« on: June 30, 2011, 05:19:31 pm »
I have just returned home after a nice day spent at the FoS Moving Motor Show. Opened the front door and there's a letter from the DVLA.

I open it and seems because I am still the registered keeper of my old R32, despite not actually owning it for nearly 4 months, I am guilty of not either taxing it , sorning it or telling them I sold it.  :surprised:

When the dealer took it off my hands we did all the paperwork and they gave me the slip off the bottom of the V5 which I duly posted to the DVLA. Now this is where it goes a bit Pete Tong as they are supposed to write to me to confirm. If I don't receive anything within a month then I should contact the DVLA. My mistake. Once it's gone it's gone in my view so I ignore all paperwork that comes through the door for it especially the tax reminder which was due 3 weeks after I got rid.

So apparently I am still the registered keeper and they wish to fine me £80 reduced to £40 if I pay by 26/07. So I rang the payment line and asked if that's the end of it. The woman said not because I am still the registered keeper.

Right on to the dealer and they are sending me a copy of the invoice, dated, when they took the car off my hands. I am going to photocopy it and send it to every office that the DVLA have. Hopefully they will get the message.

Grrrrr!!!

Never had this sh*te before despite owning 1 or 2 cars in my 25year driving history.

Sorry folks, rant over.  :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:

Exact same thing happened to me when i px'ed the A3 for the GTi  :fighting:

In my case i rang the issuing fine office (Chester) and explained the situation to a very helpful chap, he recommended sending all the copies i had of the date and records of car changeover along with a covering letter explaining everything, 5 days later i got a reply letting me know everything had been dropped!

Fingers crossed you get a good result!  :happy2:

I also had this with my old ED30, despite lots of letters and providing proof of sale they didn't budge  :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:

Sadly it's nearly always the genuine guys that take one up the arse for the d1ckheads that these procedures are in place to catch.

It could have just been lost in the post though. Gutted for you, i once had the DVLA trying to fine me for a car that had been scrapped 6 months earlier. A stinky letter and they apologised and that was the end of it. I think i was lucky, they could have been total f*ckers about it. This was a few years ago mind.

Surely the dealer must have sold it on by now and the new owner taxed it??

You would have thought so John but it's an R32 so not a huge amount of movement on those.

I did see it on another dealers website but since then it has gone elsewhere.

I had to take an affidavit to get a load of parking fines and whatnot dropped from an old car, it was a while ago - but Jesus, they were relentless in insisting it was me despite the proof I provided.
Sideways yo!

Had the same thing a few cars ago. Right after I coughed up the money for the fine I got the letter thanking me for letting them know I was no longer the registered keeper of the car!

F***ERS!!
