The first one is the killer tbh.  You'll do £80 - £100 on a seat, probably another £25-£30 on adaptors for the trolley and then £90 ish on the ISOFIX base and it'll last a massive 9 months or so!!

£125 for the Recaro should last till they don't need a seat anymore.

Mike,

I went for a maxi cosi pebble seat for the newborn. With an isofix base (a must) it made for instant fixing into the car. The base has a chime & lights that indicate if the base & seat is anchored properly. It's called the Familyfix.

http://maxi-cosi.com/products/car-seats/infant/pebble.aspx

Once you're mobile, I recommend a pushchair/pram that has a mounting system for your car seat. It makes life much easier to click the car seat onto the chassis for supermarket trips etc. We chose:

http://www.icandyuk.com/products.php?id=apple

and bought a set of adaptors that link the car seat to the chassis.

Once the little fellow is too big for the car seat, the next size up (forward facing) will fit the isofix base you bought, so you simply swap seats. Under no circumstances be swayed by anyone who tells you that a seat belt anchored seat is just fine. They are a total pain to fit & remove (and you'll be doing that a lot).

I'm happy to take snaps for you of the baby seat, forward facing, and isofix base in situ, to give you an idea. Get some mesh sunblinds as well as a bootliner. You'll need to use the boot as an inpromtu changing area and your little darling will wait til you have their nappy off, then pee wildly and generously. Mine did. Thank God for boot liners.

Beware, what you are embarking on is a money pit of several orders of magnitude larger than your car can ever hope to be. But it's the best experience ever  :happy2:

Will be going for ISOFIX. Did it leave 'dents' In your bench after removal?
I saw a padded seat cover/ protector that goes under the isofix base that may help prevent permanent  'dints' in the seat and protect from inevitable stains.  It was in Vw parts section

Thanks for the links  :happy2:

No it's been fine. I was concerned at first but no problems. I lift it out periodically to vacuum the seat of the usual rubbish scattered by the boy, and I've seen no problems. Leather all the way; it's wipe clean!
