Which Sat Nav To Buy?
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:11:40 pm »
Am looking at getting a MK5 gti in particular with DSG, but some I have seen have no built in SatNav.

Am a bit confused as to which to buy but have about £1K to spend

So RNS510 but what are the a/b/c etc and what is MFD3?

I want blutooth connectivity, iphone4 video in motion rear view camera full postcode search....I will be getting a car with buttons on the wheel so want them to be compatible...

Should I be buying off Ebay or can someone recommend a good supplier/fitter?

Thanks for any advice people....

OK so I'm reading and learning here, so the RNS unites have no blutooth compatability? you have to buy extra bits to bolt on that cost hundreds of pounds...are there any alternatives from Alpine/Kenwood/Pioneer etc that do have 'everything' in one self contained unit that would work well on the Golf?

Yep unfortunately. But you can get fully working with rev camera through the forum for less than VW charge for the head unit only.

I'd go for a sh RNS310. Cheap, neat and easy to use.

RNS510 - if you get a used one maybe £400, reverse camera set up for aroune £300, and bluetooth module for around a similar price. So can be had. Or alternatively go aftermarket and get a HU which does bluetooth and has video input support and attach an external camera. I think it was Hurdy who did this?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I got the Kenwood one mentioned above, found it on Ebay for £600 delivered. Works perfectly, bluetooth, garmin nav, full ipod control (with an extra lead that was also included) and full compatability with the steering wheel if you buy the wiring loom. I would highly recommend it.

There's also a Pioneer Unit in the For sale section that does all the same things
