netbook crashed
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:05:55 pm »
I all I have an Acer Aspire One AOA150 and originally it came with Linux but I cannot use it has its not what I'm used to?  Anyway I changed the O/S to Wn XP home ed and its been fine for roughly 2 years but just recently it crashed after leaving it on over night BSOD on start up...it boots into the BIOS but once you try selecting any options i.e load last known good configuration or start windows normally it boots up the windows logo and then BSOD again.

I have a restore disc and it worked but its now gone again and I'm not sure what to do, I have all the VW stuff on there, Elsawin, vagcom with logs and ETKA fully updated :sad1:

I'm a bit relieved that I backed up all my recent pictures onto my WSpassport but the last time I did a full backup was 2009 :ashamed:  :booty:

Any one any tips or advice, I think the wife is coming round to the idea of a better laptop i.e the mac but still leaves me with what to do with the info I need off my current netbook.

Worse case scenario if the laptop doesn't work....buy a laptop hard drive caddy off ebay with USB lead (less than 10 quid), put your Acer hard drive in it, and you will be able to get to all your files from another PC

eg

Was just going to say the same thing - repeated BSOD in this way suggests that it may well be hardware related - worth trying on a different PSU if you can and in addition trying different memory (not sure on config if you are running 2 SODIMMS or 1).

Is the MSOffice from a downloaded installer (Technet etc...) or from disc media?

Hi Dom it from the program files on the old install, I have re-installed windows again and every thing has gone on now :pomppomp: only missing Elsawin with I have discs for but I'm going to put that on my other laptop, a bit more stable...

Thank you for taking the time to jump in guys I knew there would be someone on here who could help,
