Replacement shocks for Ed30 - Will these fit??
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:23:09 pm »

I have a knocking noise coming from the rear, and I have found one of the shocks causing it. So I'm looking to replace both shocks, I have an opportunity to get two shocks from another member here, but I'm not sure they'll fit

The part numbers on the 2 newer shocks are :- 1k0513029hr and the bump stops 8j0511353f, they seem to be VW part numbers, but does anyone, know if they are the correct shocks for my car?

Many thanks

Have you lowered your car?

Take care the upper damper mount is ok. These do fail sometimes and cause knocking.
Much cheaper than new shocks.

If you want to improve handling and/or your dampers have a higher mileage I'd go for
Bilstein B6 both front and rear. Very worthwhile option.

A friend of DanishGTI/Jake and me sells a set of B6 with only 5000 km on them. ;)

Just for reference the shocks that Colin is referring to are from me they are spare ones that my mate had laying around and they are from a 2010 S3 I was a bit sceptical has the rear of the S3 has the drive shafts and I didn't know if the mount for the lower shock would be higher on the hub making the shock length shorter??? Or are the shocks the same length if so then they should be fine on your car Colin.

Basically any A3/S3 shock will fit the GTI.
Most suspension parts are identical don't matter if FWD or 4WD.

I was wondering about the A3 part number (8P0 ... ), thanks for
this information.

But:  the damping rates will be different to the original GTI shocks.
Also the bump stops may have a different lengh.

I would not fit them.

If your keen try them (eg on track), but be careful the first time you
push the car hard (and report about it).
