P2188 - System too Rich at Idle
« on: May 25, 2011, 08:34:24 am »
Hi guys, anyone seen this before? Seems to happen when I lift off when coming to a stop, was reset on Monday and came back on this morning but have used car monday night and yesterday so not happening all the time.

1 Fault Found:
008584 - Bank 1; System too Rich at Idle
               P2188 - 008 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 11101000
                    Fault Priority: 0
                    Fault Frequency: 0
                    Mileage: 84772 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2000.00.00
                    Time: 16:42:10

             Freeze Frame:
                    RPM: 879 /min
                    Load: 34.9 %
                    Speed: 2.0 km/h
                    Temperature: 81.0°C
                    Temperature: 44.0°C
                    Absolute Pres.: 1010.0 mbar
                    Voltage: 13.843 V

Readiness: 0000 0001

Interesting that the fault code was recorded at a higher milage than the car had done  at the time

Thinking throttle alignment in VCDS and checking for air leaks, especially around the intercooler followed by more drastic measures.

Maybe MAF or Lambda sensor?

Also guess I should check HPFP - is the easiest thing to do just smell the oil?

Thanks

Hi Nathan, rich idle does sound odd but i had a lumpy idle a while back and that was when i changed the spark plugs and PCV and havent had it since. As i said i flagged it to Revo and VWR when the light popped up but i was reassured it was nothing to be concerend about although i can see why you would be. the mileage seems fine though as its in km so.. 84 772 kilometres = 52 674.8787 miles which is about right. Id be interested to see the out come though im sure its nothing to worry about otherwise i will feel a bit deflated with VWR and Revo both of whom i really think have been great to be honest.

Been reading the yank forums?

Ive seen this fault code many times, one was a split in the turbo inlet hose, the other was a faulty maf.

DV check on the Ed is relatively simple as it's right at the front of the engine.

Still don't understand why you are getting the System too Rich code.

17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
Power Loss
Possible Causes
Leaking Hoses and/or Pipes between Components
Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) faulty
Diverter Valve faulty
Throttle Body dirty
Possible Solutions
Check Hoses and Pipes between Components
Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
Check / Replace Diverter Valve
Check / Clean Throttle Body
Perform Throttle Body Alignment
Special Notes
Did anyone install an extra (wrong) dump valve?
When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve
If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

O rings missing on intercooler hose. Massive thank you to the people who did the work so badly in the first place ;), fair to say that Nick didn't get the work he paid for. Be careful who you trust to do mechanical work on your cars.

Got a few bits to sell now as I've replaced some stuff that didn't need doing :D

Glad its sorted mate, safe to say i wont be using revo's mechanics again  :fighting:

to think it cost me about 400 quid to put back to standard and they cocked up a few things  :surprised:

I wasn't gonna name them matey  :signLOL:

I'm glad it is all fixed now, no reflection on you as you paid money in good faith for the work to be done, I didn't even think of checking this stuff as I assumed it would've been done perfectly by them...
