Problems with RAW
« on: July 05, 2011, 05:36:48 pm »
Tried taking some RAW shots with the G12. Lookin' awesome on the LCD panel but on the computer, I can't open them. Neither CS2 nor Elements 9 recognise the CR2 file. For some strange reason, Lightroom does.

This is despite updating the adobe camera RAW to the latest version, and the G12 is on the supported list.

Any ideas?

Can you change the camera to shoot RAW in DNG format?

No. Either it's RAW, JPEG, or RAW+JPEG. I do have Adobe's DNG converter and that recognises the RAW and manages to convert it to DNG.

Completely random as to why some Adobe products recognise it and some don't!

Okay, after running the updates for PE9, it will recognise the G12's RAW.

Unfortunately, CS2 will never support the same RAW - I would have to upgrade to CS5 for this to happen, which ain't gonna happen as it won't run on this six-year old laptop.

Rich, if the laptop could run CS5, it'd be running it now instead of CS2 or PE9!

1.6GHz Centrino. Before that Duo stuff came out. CS5 might run, but it'll be like a one-legged donkey!

Adobe CS5 will only run on later Intel processors, so not PowerMacs for example. It won't even let you install it - You'll get an 'incompatible' message.

Hes not on mac though robin, so it should run on any moderately capable pc.

Bit of a moot point now. Laptop's packed up!  :fighting:
If I hadn't just bought the camera, I'd have gotten a new laptop. As it stands, I'd better switch to the netbook and wait for next month's paycheck. Or maybe the one after?

My lil sis accidentally knocked an empty glass over. Except it wasn't empty. A few drops, which entered the laptop. Didn't notice initially. Had used laptop in the morning without any problems. Then tried to use it later.

Initially it wouldn't switch on - there were no lights for power/battery/Ac power. Left it a lone and tried again. Powered up but froze at post. Then tried again and it froze but the screen wasn't working. Examined it over and noticed drops of water.

Cracked it open, took it apart, tried everything out, cleaned it all up with IPA. Checked the connections. Still won't pass POST, and nil on screen.
