Help with coding my RNS510 and MFSW
« on: July 07, 2011, 12:08:51 am »
Is there anyone in the Southampton area who fancies helping an old boy sort out his car! It needs a bit of creative coding to get it up to spec. :happy2:

It is a 2005 GTI with an upgrade to an RNS510 Version C on 2720 firmware with V7 maps. It has a Skoda 729B bluetooth module, an upgraded (AD) canbus, a Mk6 MFSW and highline DIS. As far as I am aware this should all work from the MFSW, but I can only control volume, not channel/track change. The DIS controls all work fine. Also, I think I should have voice control, but I only have voice dialing, and there is no hidden menu on the RNS.

The armrest CD player doesn't sound right, which I think is an easy fix with a change of earthing. I was going to put an MDI in, but with the sd card and hdd in the head unit seems pointless, so I am going to sell that.

I'm quite happy to pay the going rate because it's been a year since it was all fitted, and my mate who has the gear to do it keeps letting me down.

Im only in Poole if you need a hand!

Its due to the comm protocol set in the Nav settings on VCDS - just needs the BAP box unticking

As for the CD player, yes its the earth pin that needs changing

As for voice control, you may need it linking up again in VCDS to enable it

Hi Alex

Thanks for the offer, you tell me when and I'll be there.  :happy2:

It's been driving me potty for the last year or so, I hate things that don't work as they should.

I'm near Salisbury if that helps. Not far from Stonehenge actually. You could see a bit of Historic English Culture on route to/from (may even be a naked virgin or two )

Again, thanks for the offer Carl, but already organised with Alex for next Monday. :happy2:

Actually, I'm nearly as old as Stonehenge. Well not quite, but I do remember the old days when you could walk all around them. And there weren't any virgins then, so I doubt if there are now.  :innocent:

Anyway, I was born and bred in Winchester, so I have had my share of Historic English Culture. God knows why I moved to Southampton where there is none of that, especially the culture bit. The recent bin men strike actually made it look better for a while!!

Sorry to highjack the thread slightly but I'm getting exactly the same issues with my unit and cd changer.
Don't suppose anyone in the west mids are able to help out?

Again, sorry for the highjack Tony but this was perfect timing

No worries Rich. I hope you get a reply, I think there are plenty up there (relative to right darn sarf that is) that can help.

If you don't get a reply, have a look at the Vagcom/VCDS register on this site for someone near you.

Good luck. :happy2:

Just a quick note to say that I went down to Poole last night to see Alex(Perkins) as arranged. And boy, am I glad I did!

After nearly a year of waiting in vain for a friend to do it, (and I'm not convinced he could have done all this as doesn't have the experience to know what can be done) I now have full control over my RNS510 from my Mk6 MFSW with all functions working in the DIS. This was me on the way home..... :driver:

Also, Alex installed my armrest MDI, which I wasn't going to bother with, but in fact I'm pleased he talked me into it as I can already see the advantages of it over and above relying on the SD card or hard drive. And I believe there is an adapter to take an aux input, so maybe I can have DAB in the car now.

I now have voice activation and the hidden menu working too.

I can thoroughly recommend him to anyone in the area who needs any of this type of work carrying out. :congrats:

Thanks Alex, I was grinning all the way home.
