Timing out......
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:01:33 am »
My GT TDI 170 (07 plate with 67k) went into Gilder VW for the cambelt and water pump yesterday.  I received a call saying that the timing was massively out and they had problems with certain bolts spinning meaning new ones on order and me using public transport for 1 day more than expected!!

So my question is, would the issue with timing have caused any lasting damage to the car???  This came as a surprise as- the car has always been to VW for any work/service????

Any response is much appreciated.

Ben

If your timing was massively out then the engine would have been running rough and yes it could cause damage. However if it went in okay and running fine I would have thought that it would be the garage got the timing wrong when they refitted the new timing belt, as some engine need the fuel pump locking also to keep the timing etc.  I would query this with VW and find out exactly what they have done.

they have not fitted the new belt yet as they needed to order in a bolt that was just spinning when they tried to remove it - so I am told.

Hopefully I will be picking up this afternoon so will question them then but all will be well.
