What is the difference between the version B & C of this head unit? I've currently got the version C in the Scirocco and have never used the unit in the Mk5 Golf. There seems to a difference in price, is that because version C is LED?

For info if your MK5 is pre March 2007 you may get battery drain problems with the version C...

Hi Matt, yes I have just read that in a monster thread regarding the definitions of the A, B & C variants of the RNS510.

At this stage I couldn't tell you the exact month of production as I haven't picked my Ed30 up from VW yet, this Thursday  :party: :jumpmove: :pomppomp: :happy2:. It's a 57 plate.

Are there any people on here who can fit them? Once I purchase one, I'd be very interested to watch and be the on site tea boy  :signLOL: I've never pulled one out nor have the correct tools to do so, so for the first time I'd rather seek the guidance of someone who knows what they are doing.

I've currently got a Scirocco TDI 140PS and that has, it seems, the C version, which I think is wicked. However, am I right in saying that you can get a LCD & LED C version?

Actually, the physical fitting can be done by most folk with a bit of patience. It's straightforward.

Have a look at

You may need an aerial adaptor if you're starting with a second gen head unit. See:

It is really easy to fit, dont be afraid to do it yourself. Probably take 30 mins and Im pretty sure you will need the aerial adaptor.

I just stuck the gps antenna underneath the top climate cover on the dash (plenty of room on left or right hand side) and reception is fine.

Your welcome, Mav. Mine was self-fitted, no VCDS coding necessary. And by the way, the aerial adaptor is about £28 for two bits of wire :confused:

Cool. So if I buy one off eBay brand new, for example, will it need coding or will it just literally plug 'n' play? Yeah, when I read the installation thread you posted and saw the cost of the two lengths of cable I thought it was abit expensive like, how much is VW tax these days, damn!

VCDS means you can tell the car it's there, so it comes up on the highline dash and you can use the mfsw. If you don't have those, you can probably get away without the need to code it.

Fitting is easy but trying to do it withouth breaking any dash clips is a bit more challenging. :innocent:

Based on that Stealth it will need coding then, as I have the MFSW set up. How do I go about that then? Dealers or does someone possess the software to code the headunit to the car?
