a very sad day for F1 - been alot recently.

Appently this could open law suits from those who bet on the outcome, betting shops as well as the stewards, drivers and fans who could have been imjured.

Some more dark days ahead.

does anyone know why media add "Gate2 to anything remotley dodgy?

Sounds like Piquet Junior throwing his toys out the pram. My guess is that given his family background he's probably a tad spoilt.

That's as maybe, but telling the truth it would seem.

Just seen this on the BBC website

Flavio Briatore has left his position as boss of the Renault team after they decided not to contest charges of fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Executive director of engineering Pat Symonds has also left the team.

....Surely by not contesting the charges and by not protesting their innocence, this action can be interpreted as an admission of guilt. Or are there additional more specific statements?

By all accounts the radio transmission and telemetry is not good for them.  Piquet accelerated into the corner rather than braked.

Should all wash out next mon as they still have to be before the court in Paris

I think they've outed those to in an attempt to mitigate their case and claim that it was all down to those two and nothing to do with the Renault team.

I'd still like to see them booted, it would serve that tw@t Alonso right.  He should have raced after his ban for the wheel incident.

I watch the F1 "races" avidly and something like this simply makes me wonder what else goes on behind closed doors. This for most people will be the straw that could possibly see the end of F1 as the pinnacle of racing. A very sad day indeed.

The more you look at the evidence, the more damning it becomes for Renault.

My next question must be "Did Alonso know?"

Surely asking him to come in early for fuel and tyres when he didn't need to would have been something he'd question? So if he did, what answer would they have given him?

"Shut up and don't ask daft questions"
"None of your business"

Or

"we've worked out a strategy to get you back in contention"
"Nelson Jr is going to crash to get you a winning advantage"

Maybe I'm cynical or just a conspiracy theorist, but it now sounds dodgier than ever.

Renault may even pull out of F1 in shame altogether, which would be a real pity.

Yeah, I have to agree there. The despicable actions of a few people :stupid: could literally impact on the lives and livelihoods of thousands.  :sad1:

I dont think Alonso is in on it.

I hope Renault do get the book thrown at them although think the current economic client they will probably get abig fine or a heavy rap on the knuckles.

Agree though I have traevlled to see some GP overseas if the racing is not honest to an extent would start to re-consider

Ok just to put another perspective on things:

Piquet probably crashed to save his F1 carrier.  This could have brought him a drive for the 2009 season, the conversation could have been;

RENAULT -  " Piquet, we need you to crash on lap -- at turn --, this will give Alonso the win through the safety car".
PIQUET - "F**k Off"
RENAULT -  "We will renew your contract for 2009 if you do"
PIQUET - "What corner did you say?"

This could be a very believable scenero.  What i would like to know is the conversation between Flav & Renault

RENAULT - " Flav, if you dont wil by Signapore your out of our Team.
Flav - "F**k Off will I
singapore GP after Qualy

RENAULT - "we need to talk to you regarding your employment with the Renault F1 team
FLAV - " er, give me 1hr and you will have your win.       Pat, ive have a cunning plan  :stupid:"

did you hear what stirling moss said on the subject?

he stated that theres no way a true driver would deliberately crash a car, regardless of any team orders..he classed himself as a true driver and made a point of saying he would tell anyone to jog on if they stopped him driving, he said its why he gets in the car

Im not very well known on the forum, and this may make me the least popular person in here, and possibly the UK.  I should delete this and not even submit my reply but im not going too.

here goes and im very VERY sorry but...

Am I wrong to think barrichello should win the F1 world championship this year?

OK, your angry right now, your calling me names, you hate me but have a little think, just for a min.

The guy has put up with some real bad times at F1, he has been through some very tough times and never ever quit, he has always been reliable and up there with the best.  It clear that Braun had a flying start due to the rear diffuser issue but look at how much more Ruberns forces from his car than Button.  Look at his determination and listen to his passion when he won, he cried.  Remember when he slagged the team off LIVE on TV.  Please I like Button, im a big HAM fan but this could be the last time Ruberns ever has a real crack at the title.

I do know that my comment is like supporting Germany in the world cup, and Jenson is really going to win the world championship but does he deserve it? more than some YES, more than everyone NO.

please no horses heads in my bed tonight, dodgy phone calls and dont boil my bunny.  Hate mail however can be forwarded to the usual address.
