You not fancy F1 jonny or is the route youve choosen made it hard to adjust?
I know they are totally different cars etc just interested in the platform.

I feel that I have always been realistic, and from the start have wanted to be in sports cars.. Never considered single seaters as the financial backing it requires is pretty incredible so it would have been pointless even starting in that direction

I have a friend who took £9M to Manor for a 2nd driver 2010 seat and they turned around and said nope, we need £15M.. That says it all for me..

Thats the way F1 is going now, and will continue to in my opinion..

Much better racing in sports cars too

The LMP1 Lola has more downforce than a 2009 spec F1 car, but weights 400kg more, and has 150-200hp less, hence the difference in lap times.. The adjustment to actually driving one would be fairly minimal..

I could be wrong, but this massively says to me that Ross realises Jensons not that good, it was only his lucky diffuser giving him his title. Coupled with the fact of course, that he's allowing MBZ to do the hiring and firing, as its their team now

Ste

Comments like that crack me up.. Seriously, you have NO idea..

Jonny can you give us your opinion on JB's W/Championship win.  Would be interesting to hear from someone actually within the  motor sport arena.

I am still not sure of him as a driver, nor do I think he 'comes' across very well as a Champion.  But As always there are 3 sides to every story, the right, the wrong and the press.

I think we are tainted heavily by the press, I will admit to that.  I am interested to read your views on the subject.

Cheers Mate.

I don't mean, nor intend to insult anybody with my opinions, but they are just that - my opinion.

I'd love to know your opinion on the matter though please, as it sounds (from the replies in this thread) that you have some Motorsport background which i wasn't aware of, so as said by Stokeballoon it'd be good to get the view of someone closer to the subject so to speak.

Perhaps it's just because i don't rate Jenson very highly. Admitted my opinion is formed purely on what i see of him and the sport on the television / in the media, and i'll happily listen to and respect anybodies opinion on the matter.

To be honest I don't think my opinion means anything more than anyone else on this at all.. If you rate Jenson or not is your decision, personally I really do, I think he drives the car to 100% of what its capable of, you only need to have watched the last race in Brazil to see that! At the top of any sport, F1, Sports cars, ping pong whatever, you don't get a win or even more so a championship for free, its not luck..

There's one simple reason why he won this year, and its because he was the most consistent high scoring driver on the grid over the course of the year..

Having myself, been in the situation for the last couple of years driving a car that (for whatever reason it may be) NOT capable of winning, then fortunates changing and being in a position where you can show yourself I really sympathize with his position!! Its VERY hard not to say 'F*ck you all' to all of the doubters, but thats what you have to do, or just say it in your head anyways!..

I think he has handled his success this year with 100% professionalism and thats all credit to him!

Mercedes Benz Takes Over Brawn GP Team
« Reply #229 on: November 16, 2009, 07:10:23 pm »
Jenson Button's British-based Formula One championship team Brawn GP is being taken over by Mercedes-Benz.

The German car giant, which has taken a 75% stake in Brawn GP, will rebrand the team Mercedes GP, the company's boss Dieter Zetsche announced.
Mercedes said it would continue to supply long-term partners McLaren with engines until at least the end of 2015 but would buy back its 40% stake in the team by 2011.
"Rumour in the pit lane says the Mercedes-McLaren relationship has been strained for a while," said Sky News sports presenter Jon Desborough.
"McLaren Group boss Ron Dennis says he's optimistic about the new arrangement, describing it as a "win-win situation, for both McLaren and Daimler".
"But will Mercedes stick around at McLaren's Woking base if their new team is successful?"

Brawn GP, which took over from Honda when it pulled out from the sport, has enjoyed a bumper debut season.
Jenson Button won the drivers' title and the team also won the constructors' championship.
Team principal Ross Brawn is expected to remain in his role, but the future of his drivers is uncertain.
It is thought the new Mercedes GP team will look to a partnership of German drivers Nico Rosberg and Nick Heidfeld, leaving Button free to join fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton at McLaren.
"Mercedes-Benz supports the idea of signing an experienced and capable German driver," said Mercedes Sports boss Norbert Haug.
"There is however no reason to finalise the driver situation too hastily," he added.

i, too am a Button fan, regardless of splitters i see him as a proper driver - in retrospect, and i mean no offence at all i promise, after watching license to le mans i'm baffled why Drayson doesnt realise he's a lead weight compared to jonny - i bet drayson could run rings around me, what im getting at, as a driver and talent you outclass him jonny  :congrats:

now flipping it back to F1, there's alot of Draysons on the track (metaphorically speaking)

I havent seen the programme VC mentioned but will check it out, i saw it mentioned in another thread. You TV star!!

With regards to the JB comments i think the three comment one sums it up pretty much, i can shed a little light on what he was like a teen, i went to same school as him albeit the year below but circle of friends often crossed paths so i knew him a little, he was a very focused and determined character, very loyal to his mates and would always be there for them, i remember when he first signed pro and he let my mate brad drive his new m3 which he kindly wrote off after a hour or so!! He later went on to be brads best man!
I dont know to much how he is now but im sure he still has the same morals etc, from what my friends say hes still the same chap.

Im a big lewis fan but i think JB was a worthy winner and i for one hope him and lewis are team mates next year, what a great partnership that could be!

I like the insight prepree - he always comes accorss like you have stated and is good to know they are out there.

It could be a dream pairing.  I like both Lewis and JB my only fear for Jenson would be mclaren is completly centered around Lewis and the car handling will be more skewed to the oversteer Lewis likes than the understeer Jenson prefers.

lets hope it turns to be the dream team as heiki is not up to it at mclaren

....

Lewis + Jenson promises to be an awesome partnership but I wonder where McLaren will be in 3 years time if Mercedes succeed in their involvement with Brawn. Still, a lot can and will happen this coming season let alone in 3 years.

I don't care whether it's a 'GB' team or not - Motorsport is an international team effort as far as I'm concerned. I'm still a Ferrari fan.
