RR please post up a review + pics on the 500exr. Surprised you didn't get the x100.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

....Okay, will do, but let me use it for a week or two to form some conclusions  :happy2:

I didn't choose the x100 because of pocketable size - I literally carry my camera 24/7 except when in bed! Also, I recall something about it which didn't suit my needs.

Perfect! Has a hint of a real background and, of course (damnit!!), stunning quality.  :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

Spiders are beautiful creatures. Plenty of the same type of spider inhabit my gaf - I'll have to see what the best quality I can manage with my compact.

About how close to that spider with the camera did dad get?

Ill send on your praise  :signLOL:

Not sure how close he was.. but looking at the EXIF data it says "Focus Distance   0.35 m" so i presume 35cm.

.
That's one of the (many) advantages of a specialist macro lens - You can shoot from a distance which doesn't scare the subject off. My compact has a nice 24mm-360mm optical zoom (SLR 35mm format equivalent) but I often have to get very close and the creature runs off.

Very true Robin. Macro lenses are very specialist lenses, but there results are clear to see.  :happy2:
