ITG / BDM induction kit
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:21:52 am »
So, has anybody taken their ITG / BDM kit apart after a few thousand miles and looked inside ?  Reason I ask is that I made a kit similar to the BDM kit using their pipercross filter and have taken it apart twice now to find traces of dust on the corners of the 90deg bends and on the reducer into the maf. The first time I cleaned the filter and then lightly oiled it (and I do mean lightly) but as the Mk5 engine bay can be a dusty place (putting it kindly) I thought I'd whip the filter off again to have a look inside the pipes. Now I know the silicone pipes do attaract dust which sticks to it but the last thing I want is great amounts going into the engine.

Berg, I've spoken with BDM (who have in turn spoke to Pipercross) and Andy from ITG yesterday and today. Very helpful guy Andy and basically said the the filters need to be well oiled.  When I initially asked BDM about oiling they advised a light oiling. Pipercross have come back to them today and said that you should be using a whole can (75mg) of their oil additive on a filter and to work it into the foam. They also said to spray some inside the filter.

This is totally inline with what Andy ITG said. He says he uses a modified spray gun to oil their filters and that the WRC filters are dipped in a slightly lighter solution. Pipercross also said to leave the oiled filter dry for an hour before use.

I have did over 20k miles on my old ED30 with an ITG intake and it had no traces of dust inside the filter or on the bends of the pipework.

After speaking to Andy I believe that Steve. I'll give the pipercross filter plenty of oil and give it 1-2k miles and have another look inside. Any traces then and its coming off to be replaced by an ITG filter as per their kit.

Berg, what filter are you running ?

Pipercross one mate. Will get some oil now but was concerned about oil getting onto the MAF and knackering that. Are there two different Pipercross products - if so which one will you be using? Let us know and i will get some off fleabay.

Thanks.
