What RPM does everyone shift at?
« on: July 11, 2011, 06:38:10 pm »
When they're giving their car beans! I find 7K is far too much in anything other than 1st gear and around 5800-6500 is enough as the boost seems to become less apparent at anything past 6K. How do you guys find this in your GTi's?

Do you have a k03 or k04?
The k03 starts to run out of puff at around 5500rpm.
Without traction power is nothing!

Where the torque and bhp curves cross. About 5500rpm.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

At approx 5,500 rpm. K03 Revo2. DSG also Revo remapped. I drive mostly in Manual mode on the flappy paddles.  :happy2:

Always warm up !

All engines need to be up to operating temperature before driven hard

.... x 2

I let the auto choke drop the revs on startup before I even engage gear and leave the garage. And then cruise in D-mode no more than 30 mph until the water temp gauge is normal. Fortunately I have to drive through a 30 mph zone whichever direction I leave home in. Why there is no oil temp gauge as OEM is beyond me!  :stupid: - The water temp has to do as some kind of clue.

My poor Czech clothed Golf has an oil temp on the dash.

Maybe the Mk6 has one but even so the oil gauge takes way longer than the water to get up to temp.

Same as Ian i wait for the Oil to get warm (above 90 deg) and then i use the power and change up around 4krpm unless giving it some welly and then i go to about 5krpm.

Just for info on any Petrol car the Torque/BHP will always be equal at 5252rpm. If not there is something wrong with your car (or the dyno you used  )

It goes without saying the engines always warmed to optimum temp before any boost action. Mostly I'll shift around 5800-6000 when giving it a fair bit of stick as I find this is where most action happens!

I think 7000rpm on my KO3 is only really worth it in 1st gear :happy2:

I recall an old article from EVO mag that the Scirocco tfsi makes pops on redline upshifts with the DSG. My golf gti doesn't do this with the 6 speeder :sad1: lol???
