You need to view your insurance in the right way.

Some people seem to think they're all a bunch of b******s who you're forced to give your money to, and any means of cheating, lying and chancing your arm to get a few quid off your premium is fair game. This will ultimately bite you hard.

I'm a customer buying a service, I speak to my broker Greenlight like an adult and discuss things with them. If we both understand what is expected of each other, there's no surprises.

....Hear! Hear!  :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

I couldn't agree more. I also insure with Greenlight and feel we are on the same side and not adversaries.

Does changing wheels from Monza's to pescaras count as a mod?

....Both my Monza'a and OZ alloys are listed on my Greenlight policy's list of mods insured like-for-like and it doesn't matter which I'm riding on. I'm told I don't need to inform them of my tyres.

Does this apply to optional extras on the car at the time of purchase, ie sat nav, winter pack, bodykit etc..??

My father in law has a Leon FR, with the BTCC kit on, upgraded alloys etc... and he declares all of it as modifications, most standard companies have increased his premiums, however this year i introduced him to greenlight/brentacre etc...

Always better to safe than sorry, would you not declare a diamond ring or expensive watch on the house insurance just to get it cheaper?  :happy2:

I would argue that because they are a VW part and could of been fitted to the car prior to you purchasing, so you could plead ignorant in that example.

Everything (with the exception of a remap) I've done has never cost me a single penny to declare. You'd be an idiot not to, it takes 2 minutes to fire an email off listing everything.

It's like having a kick me sign on your back, and then complaining when you get booted in the ass.

With Greenlight, Revo stage one from stock (ED30).. Policy adjustment ZERO.... Well happy.. :drinking:

Also insurance halved for REVO anti theft fitted... Double Happiness.

Isnt that a PITA to have to carry that SPS around with you all the time?

Some maps don't require additional hardware to immobilise.

I am still waiting to hear back if an R32 front brake kit would suffice for them to insure. At the moment I'm happy though with Adrian Flux so am in no rush to jump ship.

IMO Tyres would be really silly

Tyres will be checked in the event of a claim , so ensure your tyres meet the required standard rating and specification when replacing them. It is also an indication of how the car has been looked after if there are cheap/budget tyres on a car.

The best thing I can say about insurance is - ask.

I recently needed something a little 'off piste', shall we say - and whilst I'm not going to go into detail, suffice to say computer said no.

I spoke to Tony at Greenlight, put my case forward with a detailed email and he took it to the underwriters with his support due to me being a long term customer with excellent history. Computer no longer said no, I got what I wanted, he got to keep a happy and loyal customer.

I'm not going to pretend they're suddenly all up for taking on more risk if you just ask, but some cases are borderline and with a bit of discussion can be sorted.
Sideways yo!
