There is no such thing as a uprated panel panel filter for the Mk5 you can change it but it wont uprate anything. Save your cash for something useful.  :happy2:

Wise words mate. If you are really concerned fit a brand new OEM one.

Im sure OEM Paper element filters are not as good as filters such as Green Cotton, Pipercross, K@N etc.

Im sure it would improove engine air intake volume (s) it to a certain extent, but as has been said, your "bum dyno" wont feel any difference.

The Ed30 filter is different to a normal GTI filter when you buy from VW. Different part no's and the filter itself is thinner iirc.

Neither will a proper Dyno.

There's actually quite a lot of research out there to suggest that OEM paper filters do a better job than aftermarket filters!

I don't think its conclusive as to which route is better, but I think you will be wasting your money buying just a panel filter!

Are you sure mate?

Do you have the part numbers?

No I don't have the part numbers but my local dealer gave me a normal GTI one when I changed it in my Ed30. I took it back as the part numbers differed and the GTI one was thicker.

Interesting.

So the ED30 filter might give a slight improvement on a GTI.

I doubt it to be honest.

Not even sure why the Ed has it either.
