s3 rear brakes

Hi

I have bought some used S3 rear brakes, but didn`t get the dust shields.
Should I buy some new? Or what do You do?

Use the existing ones, they will just need bending back slightly to make room for the larger disc  :happy2:

RedRobin runs S3 Rears and doesnt use the rear dust shields...

I run r32 rears and as stevep says just bend the existing stone out about 5 mm

If it helps anyone thinking on this upgrade I'd really recommend this mod. I've gone the similar route to RR on my Ed30.

Recently bought a 4 pot set up for the front and decided to get the S3 rear upgrade too.
We had a slight issue when fitting the fronts (wrong fittings on the lines) so for about a week was running standard very worn fronts and the S3 set up with new/cheap Ferodo pads at the rear.
I found it made a noticeable and positive difference to the car that week, and now with the 4 pots on the front it stops really superbly.

Got mine (rears) off the For Sale section on here and all they needed, more for my peace of mind was a set of pads.

As an aside I quite like the black rear brakes myself..

I put some S3 rears to compliment the 4-pot calipers on the front. The fronts made a big difference but I can't say I was blown away by any additional braking performance with the addition of the rears personally. Apart from the 310 disc size, the pads are pretty much identical to standard. They are still pretty good though although I refurb'd mine myself and I am 50/50 if the time and cost was all worth it.

I also bought them on the For sale section, cant remember for how mutch.
But they are now refurbed and painted red together with some massive RS4 front brakes  :driver:

1st person Ive read that ist too impressed on the difference the S3 rears make  :confused:

All you had to do is ask mate, as i have the S3/R32 rear solution on mine  :wink:  :grin:

Maybe if I'd had to refurb them I might feel different but due to their condition all I did was buy a set of pads and some new bolts (overkill) and got them on.
As said having just the rears uprated on standard fronts I thought felt a lot better. Just my view.

A definite plus point is the silky smooth handbrake action now, but that may be due to a stiff ish rear caliper that came off the car.

Regret letting them go, will be on the lookout for another set come winter / new year   :innocent:

I am running the r32 brake upgrade on my edition 30 and chose not to use the dust shileds as it causes unnecessary dust build up....it is absolutely fine without them and does offer better performance
