Q for DSG Owners

My wife's just bought a DSG Polo GTI and I'm suprised that you can move the "gear" lever from D to N and vice versa while the car is moving without holding the button in.  It will also move from S to D to N, then back to D (but not back to S) without the holding the button in?  Is all of this normal, or is something broken?  Thanks.

Thats normal. I think that it should be locked between D and N, easy to knock it out of gear.  :scared:

I thought the brake pedal has to be pressed to move it?

Haven't actually tried to move it to N while driving :scared:

That is all correct Trev, you just have to be careful not to knock it into neutral on the move. I seem to remember sunglasses Ron having a incident were his passenger knocked it into neutral at 70mph. The incident seemed very strange as his passenger was allegedly leaning over toward him at the time.   :wink:  :evilgrin:

No worse than a manual car - that can be moved into neutral too whilst driving   :laugh: the worst thing that can happen is . . . . . You slow down

Although on a dsg, if you go into neutral when moving you can irreversibly damage the box as the oil circulation stops!

If that is the case then even more reason for a lock between D and N. I have put it in N whilst driving before by accident thinking i was in Manual...  :scared:

perfectly normal....but the part about shifting from drive to neutral and therefore cutting the oil circulation, is very true!!
