Why not?

I have essentially three options:

1. Live away from home for three years, so add up rent + bills
2. Buy another car which has to be sufficiently reliable (ie no old bangers) for me to be able to get/to from work bases (again think about cost + running costs +tax/mot/etc)
3. Lambo doors (looking to be the cheapest option)

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Hav to considered hiring a garage neraby your home - one which allows you to comfortably park and get in/out of your Golf?

why not find out what the conversion would cost 'all in' then take that figure and punch it into autotrader with the car make set to 'any' and see what surfaces? would give you a second option if anything, maybe a solid mk2 gti?

None nearby that I could use and I'm not walking miles to get to one either.

You won't do it coz you're all chat and no action, like the puddle lights thread and countless others, nowt will come of it.

ROFL. The car is on PCP so (officially) can't touch it until it's paid off, which I'm aiming to do before August, and at which point I can change to a mod-friendly insurance company (in june).

Only posted up the puddle light thread because it's something I'm interested in doing but unlike you I do not have the time to investigate properly at the moment, with important assessments this week.

As for parking, I admit at the beginning when I went from a little mk4 fiesta to a huge-ass mk5 golf, found it difficult getting used to the change in size. But am completely used to it and have been for the last what 6 months? Out of 8 month ownership?

Besides I've already got some Monzas lined up and the deposit's paid so  :angry015: you.

EDIT: This thread is based on the premise that my next job will be based close to home. If I get a job elsewhere, I'll have to reassess the situation.

Can you not just Dukes of Hazard style climb out of the window and then put it back up with the remote fob when you lock it?

You'd need a step or something, but it wouldn't be that hard.
Sideways yo!

Lambo doors are aweful to use and not as practical as you may think, my brother has just bought a dodge charger and they indeed had these LSD doors, he hated them and having tried them can understand why, he has since imported new standard hinges and changed the LSD's over, so if you still wish to proceed i can obtain a cost and all the relevant details for you!

p.s my advice  - "Don't Bother" - You will regret it and change them back

If there was room for a step, there's room for me to open the door and get out.

Please do get a quote. It would be interesting to get a comparison and see whether it was cheaper to buy another car.

I would really need to see one in the flesh on a mk5 and take some measurements and try it out (+consider costs) before I'd commit.
