New shoes!!!
« on: March 21, 2009, 08:53:21 pm »
Hi guys!

I'm looking for a bit of advice,

The monza II's on the golf are pretty corroded :scared:(oxidised under the laquer I think) so I think its time for a new set :jumpmove:!

Anyone got any recommendations that would look sweet on a black golf?

Was thinking BBS CH black edition or the gunmetal CK's but, they are pretty darn pricey!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :happy2:

You could powder coat them like RedRobin did.
Without traction power is nothing!

I thought shoes = tyres? No?

Anyway, do them like RR's - very nice finish though I think I might've gone a touch lighter if it still had that mirror effect.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

They still cover the feet!

IF you wanted to permanently kill the white worm by powdercoating them, Nigel at A1 Wolverhampton can do whatever shade/colour you fancy.

Mine are called Smoked Chrome and I wanted to do as close equivalent I could get to the original Monza 18's.

....They can easily be done a lighter shade but I find that mine look different according to the lighting.

I love the original diamond-cut plus clear lacquer look but feel greatly relieved not to have the white worm constantly being a potential threat. Even just a stone chip can break the seal and set it off. By keeping my Monza's I think I have preserved the fundamental visual integrity of the Mk5 GTI and it's a lot cheaper than changing to a different alloy design.

They do look nice but I think the brightness in the first pic is spot on and that's what I'd go for. Still like the finish on the Monzas II.

Your Golf looks lush !!! I was considering a refurb, but I have always liked BBS on a golf and can't resist !

I can't decide on what to go for !

Whats your opinions?

Cheers,
Max

....

Thanks for the compliment, Max.

Personally I prefer the silver BBS and think they look smarter. The black would look good if you go for a total black look like Greenouse's. But you're the only one who can decide.

The CK's really suit the MKV chassis and the CH's are a timeless classic that look good on almost anything, whatever you pick they will look great

It would be nice to see if A1 could replicate a wheel finish that we did a few years ago.  We knew the inherent problems with laquered wheels so tried to give the same look with a fully powercoated wheel.  Now i would post a pic up but the internet at work is sooooooooo slow it would take ages.  basically think of a 10 spoke wheel that has 5 spokes raised above the other 5 (like 2 five spoke wheels on top of each other) 5 wheels would be painted gloss black and the other 5 were painted Hyperblack.  the difference in colour made the Hyperblack look very shiney silver.  Have a look at it,  www.katoracing.com/miura to see exactly what we were tyring to do.

Now think of this principle on the Monza II, take RR's wheels and paint the usual Gunmetal colour Gloss black like the MK6 wheel.  Best of both worlds???  Anyone want to do a cross between ther MK6 GTI wheel and RR's on photoshop??

Probably a marmite finish but who knows......

....If I've understood you correctly, you can't successfully do what you are suggesting - The problem is getting a professional looking join between the colours of 'insert' to 'face' (re Monza's). It's something I discussed at length with Nigel at A1.

Didn't Greenouse have that done?
