BT Engineer anyone?

Just on the off chance one of our members is a BT/telephone engineer based near Heathrow?
I randomly developed a fault and have no dial tone and the phone doesn't ring!
The main test socket works fine- I've also tried to change the faceplate but still didn't help.
I don't fancy paying £100+ for an openreach callout but dint mind paying someone more reasonable.

I doubt any engineer will even get out of bed for under 100 pounds unless its family or friend tbh or live like 5 mins down the road.

So you have a main and an extension and one of the sockets is fine and the other one has stopped working?

Invest the £100 in some good cordless phones then there is no need for any extra sockets

You're talking about the test socket behind the face plate? If that works, then your line works and your faceplate if duff. It's BT's responsibility.

Actually if the test socket works then that's where BT's responisibilty ends, the test socket is before any internal wiring gets involced. The outside of the bt socket is part of your internal wiring and your responsibility.

have you removed everything from all sockets? Then tried each socket individually?

Do you have broadband on the line too?

Yes I've systematically disconnected all the equipment and the fault still remained.
Even with no dial tone, my broadband still works off one of the extensions!
I replaced the faceplate but no luck. Looks like I will have to stump up!
