Update on Page 4

Had my Scirocco booked into VW on Friday for some warranty investigation, following Stealthwolf checking it over for me with VCDS after i had the EPC Engine Fault show up on the dash, as well as a couple of other issues.

Other problems i have had are: jerky take off and braking when the engine/gearbox are hot. The brake servo leaks loads of air into the cabin (you can hear it hissing). The O/S weather seal is perished.

So in summary, the following are all being replaced under warranty 1 week on Monday. The dealership are anticipating having the car for 2 days.

DSG mechatronics unit being replaced.
Brake servo being replaced (ouch, wouldnt want to be doing that one).
EPC fault will be fixed (VCDS indicated TB error) with a new TPS and wiring loom.
Door seal will be replaced.

A fair bit of costs will be incurred with this im sure. I will definitely be extending the warranty with VW i think. I did get 12 months extension on the warranty with my company who i bought the car from, but in Jan next year i think im going to buy the VW warranty.

The Scirocco went into the dealership on Monday for all the repair work to be carried out. Everything has been done apart from the mechatronics.

Apparently, the dealership have to jump through hoops before VW let them replace the mechatronics unit. Anyone else experienced this?

Now they are telling me that VW are insisting they get the oil tested at a separate laboratory before they will let them replace the unit. The oil and filter were replaced in the gearbox at 36k miles; 11 months / 18k miles ago.

The car will be at the dealership until at least the end of the week now.

Load of bollocks unless all the dealers have been asking for new units when the car never needed it. Obviously the dealer gets good labour rates from VW. I am sure they will change it if it is at fault..  :happy2:

Deako, if the car is under warranty, has had all servicing carried out at the recommended intervals, and to VW schedule including a DSG oil change before the 4 year/40k point then they have no reason to delay replacement. They may wish to test the oil to establish cause of failure, though.

I suggest you phone VW Customer Care & inquire as to the process. In my experience dealers are adept at spinning works of fiction to explain why they aren't getting on with your car. Particularly if they have a stack of services booked in by impatient owners, who wouldn't react quietly when they get bumped back down the list for a big job like this. Rather than tell you they are full & you'll have to wait, they tell you some BS about your oil getting sent to the International Space Station or NASA, so you'll wait quietly until they have space.

Call me suspicious & cynical

I questioned the whole VW requesting the oil be tested malarky, and they stated they have all the paperwork from VW that they can prove for the request.

They have stated that there is no glycol (iirc)??? contamination in the oil which is present in a mechatronics failure. Can anyone confirm?

They are now testing the clutches to see if they are at fault. Ive stated i need the car back for next Tuesday, as im going to the Nurburgring for the annual Club GTI 'Ring Trip, and its looking unlikely. Not happy.

Glycol - is that something to do with the coolant?

Gary's R36 is in having the whole gearbox replaced, after having had 2 mechatronics units already. Seems the heat exchanger (oil to water) for the box fouls and leaks coolant into the 'box making it a write off. Have you noticed coolant loss, or a little mayo on the cap??

I'd say they're probably waiting on finding out if it needs a new 'box, rather than trying to wriggle out of replacing the mechatronics. Maybe.

They've had it for 3 weeks already, it's still in bits.

I've had 2 Mech's replaced R32 and Ed30.

They never tested for antifreeze in the procedure. It was a case of them following guided fault finding which entailed a Basic Setting and if that failed to improve things then they changed the Mech.

Does someone want to ring my dealership for me (VW Solihull, Johnsons) and tell them they are useless then? Or just tell them to get a hurry on!!

I think if they discovered glycol then, it would be new gearbox time. Cant see why that is stopping them changing the mechatronics. Its definitely that which is the problem for all the threads ive read with all the symptoms.

No calls from the dealership today. I have left my name twice to be called back. If i dont get a result today, next step is VW customer care. To be promised the car back in 2 days at the start of this week is the only reason i booked it in before our trip to Germany.

Well, car is back together and ready to collect tomorrow morning.

They are blaming clutch packs. On order, will take a week to get the bits in, so advised me to take car as it is and book in for when i get back.
