BTW. Gary's got his car back, new box and other bits, repair bill was £9000 and 68 hours labour.

Jesus, that's some repair bill :surprised:

Matt

It totals £20k so far, and it's only 2 years old...

VWs - not made like they used to be!!

WHAAAAAATTT????!!!  :scared:

Surely it was cheaper to call it quits, scrap it and buy a new one....unless we are talking about an £80k + motor  :rolleye:

Aircon has now been regassed. God knows why this wasnt checked properly after the repairs had been carried out. Sloppy.

The wiring loom has been completely re-repaired, with cloth loom tape used instead of the crap non-oem looking electrical tape. Under the tape, they had carried out the repair correctly, but it had just been done very very poorly.

All we ever ask is that when we get our cars repaired, that they are done properly. Im happy to say, the master tech that ended up working on my car yesterday did this, and im now happy.

Roll on next week when they have it apart again for the gearbox repairs. Im now happy that i can drive the car to Germany and know its not going to go into limp mode on a motorway at 80mph.

I'll post some pics of the 2nd attempt at the wiring repair. Its so much better.

Wow, what a saga. I've been following this, and I actually feel relieved to hear the good news. It must have been hell for you!

Thanks. Its been a frustrating ordeal to be honest. What should have been 2 days of repairs, ended up being 6 full days that the dealership had the car.

Also, since the brake servo has been repaired, the car is so much more efficient. This was reset on the motorway, but previously i had only managed to get the car near 41mpg. This was after a stint at 70mph and then mixed dual carriageway driving.

It wasnt when we got it, poorer MPG than our old Mk5 GTI. Happy to report that its very economical on a long motorway run now.

Glad it's sorted but as you say, it should have been done right first time around.

I hope they know you're gonna be just as picky with the gearbox.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

The luck gets worse. Some idiot just bumped into the back of the car at the traffic lights. Was a huge guy, very rough and aggressive. Basically told me to get back in the car. Wasnt going to stand up argue in the middle of the street. Didnt notice the dent in the bumper until i got home.  :fighting:
