I picked up the car today without them fixing the gearbox as that will need to be booked back in for.

However, they have completely f*cked up the car after supposedly repairing the other things.

The aircon no longer works, and it sounds like there is a grating noise coming out the air vents when its turned on. They must have disconnected air con pipes when the brake servo was done, but they obviously didnt check the aircon afterwards.
The wiring that they replaced going to the throttle body looks like it was done by a 5 year old. I could have done it better with my gas soldering iron. NOT to mention that if you touch the wiring, they short out and the engine tries to jump out of the engine bay. The engine then goes into limp mode and wont rev past 2k rpm again until the code is cleared.
After the door seal was replaced, they havent refitted the trims properly. Actually, it looks like the trims have been broken, so they will be replacing them too.
There is a massive clunking noise when i reverse off my drive. They would have had to drop the engine to replace the brake servo, so it just hasnt been done properly.

I think i got a trainee on my car to be honest. There were supposedly 2 master techs working on it.

Im supposed to be taking the car to Germany on Thursday, and to be honest, i dont even trust driving it down the road at the moment.

Jokers. Dont go to this dealership.

If its not sorted on Monday, then there will be a rant going into VW Customer Care.

To be honest, Hayley has done a fine job of her booking procedures etc. Its just the technicians which appear to be rubbish.

Here is a video of the wiring shorting when you touch it:

Also, here is a video of the aircon noise after they must have broken it doing the brake servo:

That's a joke. Did they get the Chuckle Brothers working on your car?  :fighting:

I didn't realise that the clutch packs were a serviceable item unless you go aftermarket. They will have to split the box to gain access which I believe involves drilling rivets out, etc.

After this little episode I can see a new gearbox in the very near future at this rate.

Either way I would register your dissatisfaction with the dealership at a reasonable level i.e. Service Manager or above and also contact VW Customer Care.

Shocking mate.

Sounds horrendous mate. Hope you get it sorted.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thanks guys. I was absolutely steaming earlier. Im going to go mental at them Monday. Not acceptable to give a car back to a customer with more things wrong with it than it went in with.

Im going to get them to do it in front of me on Monday morning.  :happy2: And i will be taking a photo of the mess under there. If the wires are just bunged together, and taped up, im going to go ape sh*t.

Dont want to get the blame for aggravating the issue or even causing it. However, i know for a fact, that VW approved method for this repair, is to use crimped connectors with heatwrap and not solder.

Sorry you are having such a terrible time, I think my patience with the stealer would have long since run out. I would be willing to wager that they end up replacing the mechatronics unit. I am afraid I would be going elsewhere this shower of incompetent bar stewards sound like they should go on the avoid list. Good luck mate, hope you get it all sorted soon.

Thats truly shocking state to be given our car back.
i have been through similar situations with SEAT but thats another story.

to cover yourself i would make a list of the faults , include photo evidence where possible , when you go to the dealers ask to speak to the workshop manager and ask for the dealer principle to be present and look at the faults together 1 by 1 , let them know that you are not happy ,before handing over the car ask them what their plan of action is to repair your car and ask for it in writing , if you could wait a little longer for your car i ask VW to send a master tech of their own over to oversee the work , i did that with SEAT.

i also told the garage they had 2 options in repairing mine either give it to another dealership or back to SEAT to repair.

the way they left your car was bloody dangerous it could have shorted and caused a fire.

finally when you car is fixed ask them what goodwill gesture they are going to sort out for you.
i have had 5 services on my car and only paid for 1 so far!

Holy crap, that's just shocking. I'm sorry to hear you're having this stress so close to your trip. Demand a courtesy car of the same type and go thrash that around the Ring instead.

Dealer Principle job that. And a shotgun.

BTW. Gary's got his car back, new box and other bits, repair bill was £9000 and 68 hours labour.
Sideways yo!
