You aint in a hurry you just want it right on your return you are a patient manthiugh, As if it had been me  i'd have gone mental unfortunatly that rarely helps , stick with being polite, positive, friendly , I am sure they want to get it right and once she is fixed you will be a happy bunny .

Having a nightmare this morning.

VW have no courtesy cars until Wednesday. VW do not have a recovery service. (The car is outside the 1 year free VW assistance).

RAC will not recover the car. They state they are a breakdown service, and cannot be used for recovery only.

I am in a dilemma, i think im going to have to resort to getting the RAC out to try and fix the car, knowing full well that they wont, and make sure i state to them to not clear ANY fault codes. Then hopefully, if they have no luck, they will recover the car to the dealership.

We are Premier Life customers with Barclays, and the RAC cover we have is with them. Obviously, not worth the paper its written on.

Update: Resorted to calling the RAC and logged it as a breakdown. ETA: 10:15.

Sounds like a plan - I have the same deal via Barclay's though and had no issues getting recovered - was late on a Saturday night so they did home recovery initially and then a follow on to the dealership on the Monday morning. Cannot fault them at all. They will only receover once they have exhausted all other avenues, so yes they'll have to try and fix the issue first.

Nightmare. This is why I have the maximum cover (apart from Europe) with the RAC. They do Home breakdown so they'll come to your house rather than have the 1/4 mile exclusion.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yeah, we get the home breakdown cover as well Stealthy, but dont have to pay anything for it. Its actually the maximum level of breakdown that the RAC provide that we get free with our bank account, including home breakdown, onward travel and european breakdown. The only downside, is actually having to let an RAC monkey try and repair the car first.

You are a patient man Deako.

I'd have driven the car through VW UK's front reception window by now. Guess you cant even do that now though!

My mum had a similar list of catastrophies with her Porsche. 4 dealers carried out sub standard and in some cases borderline dangerous work over a 6 month period. I ended up making Porsche UK take the car back for repair at their head office by threatening a media stink. They took the car in sorted everything (as it should have been done in the first place by one of their official dealers) and pretty much told me to fook off and not contact them ever again. Didnt really care though as at least the car had been fixed properly.

Good luck with everything

Matt

Thanks all. Well, in spite of my ranting, my faith has been changed in at least the RAC this morning.  :happy2:

Fault diagnosed, its a coil pack. But the car would not start at all last night and all morning.  :indifferent:

RAC guy has been an absolute star. Drives a black Edition 30 himself.  :driver:

Has diagnosed the fault, but offered me 3 options.

1. Fix the part, and charge the cost.
2. Recover the car to the dealership.

or

3. Call VW assistance, see if they will come out and replace the part under warranty.  :congrats:

He really didnt need to offer number 3, and has gone out of his way to call back to RAC headquarters, and get one of the VW assistance technicians to see if they have the part on board, and if not, pick one up on the way and come and fit it.

So at this stage, it looks like we should have it back up and running in the next couple of hours.

However, im still not happy with the gearbox, and will be getting it booked back into the dealership asap. When the gearbox is hot, it still has the mechatronics/clutch related symptoms.

What are the chances of him being an edition 30 brother! Haha

VAG coilpacks really are made of chocolate!

Didn't realise they have to have a stab at it. When my car broke down, the RAC chap did his version of a VCDS scan and then just towed it to the nearest dealer.

+1. I'd have been livid by now.

Excellent turn out!

Hopefully your run of bad luck has ended.

Have you had a look with VCDS in case the 'box has logged any faults since the car was returned? May be worth a peek
