Yes.. Another passenger door opening issue :(
« on: July 21, 2011, 08:25:29 am »
I have had a search and seem to be loads of threads as sadly seems to be quite a common fault. Most have said the locking mechanism has sorted it once replaced.

Mine seems weird. If i come to my car, unlock it, passenger door will not open, if i pull the handle from inside, still nothing but once i have done that, two pulls from outside and door will open. Then if the door is shut it will reopen first time everytime unless i go for a drive or lock it again.

I can also open it by applying pressure on the handle bit where your thumb sits. Is this software issue or locking mechanism? Do i need a new one or does it need adjusting.

Lastly, just above the catch in the door there is a plug with a padlock on it, you remove this there is a red lever you can move, what is this?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure on your main question mate but my guess on the red lever would be a child lock/kidnapping   lock?
It is a pain in the arse not being able to open the passenger door on 1st unlock sometimes. The missus thinks I do it on purpose!

Sounds like the door lock is on the way out, i'd get it changed asap as if it stays in safe position ie deadlock, they are right pig to get open.

Uncle DeeDee is correct. Mine did this a few weeks ago. Deadlocked and couldnt be opened from the inside or out. I managed to get it open by winding the windows down and while repeatedly pressing unlock on the key fob whilst pulling the inside handle. Took about 10 mins but once it was open wasn't too bad a job to sort. Just make sure you have a new lock module ready to fit before you start messing. Oh and to access it you need to remove the outer door skin. Inner door card can stay on  :happy2:

This is an easy job you can do yourself. Dont have to touch the door card. Just the outer door skin has to come off which is about 16 bolts and you can get to everything. Now I've done one I'd say couple of hrs max.

Dealers charge £80 for the part & around 2 hours labour, so you won't get much change from £300. I've had both front doors do this, and my extended warranty has covered all.

Incidentally, if you aren't sure, a VCDS scan will give you:

2 Faults Found:

00097 - Front Passengers Central Locking (Safe) Motor (V162)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit
00929 - Locking Module for Central Locking; Front Passenger Side (F221)
        008 - Implausible Signal

Great stuff guys thanks.

Can anyone point me in the right direction I can have my faults checked in the Birmingham area?

May attempt this myself looking at those costs.

Go to the VCDS area & check the VCDS owners register. Pm your closest forum members & ask

Here's a photo of mine for reference. Looks quite drastic but not a bad job to do.
