Why a GTi and not an R32 ?

Just wondered why people chose the Gti over an R32?

Test drove both back to back. GTI chosen because:
Better feel & lighter handling
Engine character (driven turbo's for a number of years)
Deeper boot for prams
Better fuel economy
Better looking front, but not rear
cheaper for the same age/mileage

I chose the R32 first... and wished I still had it... Chose the Ed30 as I like the allround capacity of the Mk5 golf and cheaper on fuel...

ed30 a better all round package than an r32.

pluses for r32 are the traction, soundtrack, better interior. but the minuses outweigh these imo.

however, when looking at the mk6 range i think the R is clearly streets ahead of the gti and probably the ed35

Wow thats steep. I never understood why some cars are more than others. I had a 3.4 Porsche 911 until feb and that was 190 a year tax and 380 a year insurance. I change to a gti and its 245 a year tax and 480 a year insurance with stage 1.

I understand that they are more expensive to run but looks wise they look ok from the back, the front is a bit silvery!!!!

Cost - I sold the R32 when I was short of cash, loved the noise, power delivery and the surefooted nature of 4wd.  That said, my GTi is just as fast and the chassis is excellent, plus gone some way to addressing the noise by fitting an APR RSC exhaust.

I drove the Awesome Mk5 GTi demo car when it was fitted to that and loved it, plus used to see/hear it on the motorway so knew I had to have one when I bought my GTi.....
