Golf GTI Stage 1 Remap, what companies?
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:05:37 am »
Hey I'm looking to get my car mapped on stage 1 software, I'm from Edinburgh and far as I know there isn't any Revo dealers nearby. So what other companies are recommended by the guys on here and what sort of price should I be looking to pay and what power increase should I expect?

Also I understand I should up rate the Diverter Valve (what's kind is best)

Any help is much appreciated,  :happy2:

The best diverter valve would be the D revision OE one.  These are relaible and I do not believe anyone has had an issue with this revision yet.

As for remaps its a lottery.  I would always go for a Shark Performance one as I have a stage 1 shark performance already and its silky smooth!  Someone with a Revo would say go with Revo etc.  I would use the search facility and read through some previous posts and make your own mind up.

I can comment on the Stage 1 Shark and it is really good.  The engine pulls to the red line with no sudden drop in power and always feels like there is more than 240bhp, but I have removed my pre-cat so that helps too.  Shark do offer an STS unit, similar to the Bluefin device but it does not lock to one ecu.  You can keep it and use it on your next car etc  It also acts as a fault code reader and has proved invaluable recently fault finding on my car.

I know JannerSy has had different maps on his Octy VRS and was always impressed with Shark with all map stages!  Ben is opening a new premises soon on the 29th August and may have one day special prices etc on maps.  It s food for thought for you

Cheers Matt

Thanks for the reply, when you say the revisions DV I assume you mean the revised OEM VW one? Also I'd be looking to uprate the DV, plugs and aftermarket filter before the stage1. Is there any companies in Scotland that can carry out the Map?

Star Performance in Kirkcaldy do remaps amongst many other things. Prices on their website.

You'll get great advice and service from Jim and the lads over there. I used to travel across from Oban to get my Mk1 Octavia vRS serviced etc by them. It was well worth it. Car always came away in rude health  They also extracted 217bhp/240lb/ft from my vRS with a very smooth map and I never had any problems with it.

The DV is a VW one and is better than the forge aftermarket DV.  A few people have experienced fluctuations in the boost when lifting off with the FOrge and they need servicing every 6 months.
The spark plugs, again the best ones are the standard ones as they are now a step colder '7' as opposed to '6' and are made by NGK.  NGK part number PFR7S8EG or VW part number 06H905601A.  You could go for NGK iridium Spark plugs (BKR7EIX for standard or BKR8EIX if you want a further step colder.  But really the 8s are for high powered 280bhp + track cars)  I had some iridiums and they burnt out fairly quickly.
With airfilters you arent going to reap much benefit at stage 1 but I fitted a panel filter in the air box.  I had a BSH induction kit but I found I lost some low end torque so I refitted the OE engine cover.  You dont really need an induction kit till you go stage 2+

Thanks for the replies, is there any point replacing my DV even though the car runs fine or should I just get it replaced anyway before the map? Also is there a part number for the VW DV (the newer, improved one)

Has anyone else had any experiences with Star performance? Seems like a good bet as they aren't far from me

Id probably change the DV for piece if mind anyway. Its only £50.

Map wise id be looking at Shark performance, APR, P-Torque, jabbasport, superchips, REVO

APR have a really nifty control mechanism where you can change map settings using the cruise control stalk.
Shark performance and bluefin are the only 2 that can 100% revert to the stock map without revisiting the tuners.  Revo and APR can switch to their own version of stock map with the same performance as the stock car, but its not the stock map

I can highly recommend DNA Tuning. Both me and a friend have had Stage 1 with no problems at all and good performance, I've now gone onto stage 3 with 280 bhp and 320 ft/lb. The map can also revert back to completely stock map with the optional SRS ii unit which I have.

There is a DNA dealer 15mins away from you at Sitech Racing, Rosyth
