Ianmr's GTI - First Full Detail

I bought my GTI a while back after having an Ibiza Cupra but then Engine blow up :(

I'd love to say the GTI has been issue free but not :( IN the first month of ownership it had the front wings replaced due to rust, rear heated window replaced, cruse control replaced along with some fuse issues.

After a couple of months the brakes started squealing so I stripped them down to find when the new pads were fitted to the front (by VW the week before I bought the car) they hadn't cleaned the carriers and the outside pads had NEVER touched the discs, meaning the pads and discs when 'fu***8'. This started a long complaint with VW resulting in a new discs and pads for me :) good result over all! I'm now hoping that the car is in tip top condition.

SO I thought it was high time to give the car a big detail.

Here are a few before shots before the 'big clean'.









Most of it was surface dirt....or so i thought.

I thought it would also be a good idea to set out all my cleaning products like a right geek! :D



At this stage I got abit keen and forgot to take alot of pictures....but I started with the jet wash down and the classic 2 bucket clean.

I then used the Auto Finesse Oblitarate over the whole car which surprised me, I then moved onto Iron out. Turns out my Silver car wasn't so Silver.











I then took all the wheels off to give them the same treatment as I wanted them to look like new.



While the wheels were off I took the opportunity to give the under the arches a sprouse up, used bug and tar remover (Mug Off) to which seemed to work wonders.





And did the same under the bonnet.





I then washed the car down again fully and set about some clay barring, again there was alot more on the car than I thought.





After around 3-4 rub rounds and and yet an other wash down i was ready for a light polish as the paint was in great condition with next to no swirls.

























This was a few weeks ago and it's had about 5 coats of wax since and it's looking fantastic!

Honestly think it now looks better than when the first owner bought it new!

Next year after winter I will do it again but possibly look a DA...

Great Looking car. Engine bay is a real treat now. Once you sprayed the Muc Off on did you then pressure wash?

I wasn't brave enough, I gave it a sponge bath lol

I'm not sure if getting the engine bay soaked is a great idea? :S
