Thats not good. Id probably put the car back to standard and keep it with just an exhaust and map. Or put it totally back to standard and cut your losses. Then use the money saved and the money earnt from the sale of the aftermarket parts to put towards another car.

Question is... can you safely get the power you want from this lump?

It can get the power, it is just the long term reliability. There's a guy on the UKMKIV'S forum who has managed to get over 350whp from his twin charged Golf 1.4, but his car is off the road as much as it is on it and almost every pipe is custom made. Even then it is still fwd and at the limits of the format.

Very sorry to hear this, but it was inevitable on the platform considering what has happened to people just running maps.

This is why I chose APR. If something goes wrong ive got the assurance that they will sort it.  Alot of tthe smaller companies out there wouldn't want to pay for any damages I bet

I would like to point this out from Page 15/16 discussion.

but this isnt a result of their work.  if they bent a rod or melted a piston then yeah id be after thrm to pay for it.

Im hoping they will sort the labour though.

Do you know for certain it's not caused by their work though and using ur car for R&D etc??

That is the question that I would be putting to them quite strongly.

"Here's your car back Sy oh and by the way it's fooked."

What's the mileage on it now or is it like Captain Kirk's daily driver?

Did the process go something a little like this?

Build it.
Break it.
Sell you a "cost" upgrade by means of an apology.
Break it.
Blow it up.
Sell you a "cost" upgrade by means of an apology.

Finally go out of your mind, fall out with them and be stuck with a massive bill to sort.

Not a lot's changed in the last 10+ years then....

Sorry to hear you've had problems, whether it's down to them or just bad luck - it's not nice to suffer. I hope you get it sorted easily and cheaply.

How would anyone ever possibly be able to say? It's a common failure anyway.

Like the others have said, perhaps time to move back to a stronger platform to start with.

Fingers crossed the block isn't scored

Sy, can I collect the car from APR and just chuck a TFSi lump in?

That's not a bad idea at all. I would do that as a viable option. Probably take a lot of work sorting out the loom, but definitely an option.
