Wax application

Hi guys,

When using wax with a DA what is the ideal way to apply it and acessory to use on the DA itself?

I think it's easier to apply and buff off by hand. It's a PITA (for me anyway) to do this with a hard wax. Liquid waxes are easier. Finishing pad and low speed is fine. I'd still buff by hand.

TBH given that most waxes tend to cure quickly, especially in the summer, I'd apply to a panel at a time and buff off before moving to the next.

I'll be using a Dodo Juice wax. So you reckon using a cloth and buff panels individually would be fine? What sort of cloth would be best suitable for the application of a wax, sounds a daft question I know but there is literally loads to choose from!

Use a soft foam applicator for putting it on and a good quality microfibre cloth for removal, plus a further one for the final BIG buff.

As above, round yellow foam pads are fine. There's some megs ones in halfrauds which will do. Quick light mist with a quick detailer spray on the pad, load the pad with wax, apply thinly as you can. It should be barely perceptible.

Most waxes tell you wait until it hazes over before buffing but IMO this is usually far too long. I use the finger swipe test - if you can leave a clean mark with your finger, it's ready for buffing.

Wax one panel eg one door, then wax another panel eg second door, then go back and buff the first one. Stops the wax hardening too much which makes it a chore to buff.

Once you've done this to your car, it's worth dampening a microfibre cloth with quick detailer and use this to buff the whole car.

i use the blue & yellow sponge applicators, rinsed first then cut them in half and they fit right in all pots.

I've done that with german applicators but use it for lime prime.

As by the questions I'm asking I'm a novice when it comes to cleaning cars... properly that is.

Keith, I shall be buying the wax & a few other bits & pieces from the wash shop soon, I recently purchased the Dodo Juice red mist and micro fiber cloth, good stuff  :happy2:
