Budget lowering with comfort?
« on: July 30, 2011, 10:15:55 am »
Hello folks. I'm considering doing something to the suspension. I want to lower the car, but want to retain some comfort. I had kw v1s on my mk4, and it was very harsh.
I had considered eibach or H&r springs, but do they change ride quality too much? And for the work involved, is it worth buying dampers, or going for a coilover kit?
Thanks in advance for any advice :happy2:

H&R springs with blisten B8's

Ran the springs for 6 months before adding the dampers

Was fine with stock shocks but a definate improvment with the bilstens on (as you'd expect)

Only changed them as was advised the stock dampers would fail faster with lowering springs

But glad i did all the same :happy2:

Think I'll go with the H&r springs, what drop did you go for Damien? I'll price up some bilstein shocks, as I'm sure the fsds were pricey. What is the ride like with those on? Did you all buy new bearings aswell, or just use what was on?

The new B12 stuff is faptastic. The old B12 stuff was one of the best sub £1k kits available.

Remember to spec the springs by axle weight

Never had an issue with either Eibach springs on the Eddy or H&R on the .:R on standard springs. Much stiffer with less bodyroll but not compromising comfort.  :happy2:

lowering = loss of ride comfort

This is simple physics.

Dom, my kit was fitted to the car just before I got itso cant compair it to standard.

After having coilovers on previous cars the current setup is great. As I already said, your more than welcome to have a ride out to see what you think.

Check out Damian@DPM for some good prices http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/golf-5-05-09-springs-shocks-c-1909_1945_2124.html
