Suggestions on Replacement Disc and Pads...

Hi Guys,

Go a Golf GTi ED 30 with the R32 Brakes Front and Rear, Looks like I'm going to need a new set of Disc's soon so was just wondering what the best options would be, not had much luck locating much at the moment! Was thinking about just saying with the OEM stuff, but wondering if there was maybe an option which would be better value for money?! Pad should be OK for now but I'll replace them at the same time if needs be :)

Personally, Id stick OE for discs and pads  :happy2: Quality is great and they offer very good braking performance for the cost. If you know someone with a TPS account, the discs and pads are much much cheaper

Personally, Id stick OE for discs and pads  :happy2: Quality is great and they offer very good braking performance for the cost. If you know someone with a TPS account, the discs and pads are much much cheaper

Yeh they are pretty good as is, but I do find they start to fade at the end of a spirited drive so was thinking maybe finding some drilled/grooved discs to help the situation?!

I'll have a look at the cost of the OE stuff, not even found the price yet LOL...

A change of brake fluid (even uprating to Dot5 blue super ATE) and some HEL stainless hoses would make a big difference on that part  :happy2:

DS2500 pads are pretty well respected for their brake punch!

I've looked into replacing to OEM which seems to be more expensive...But just wondering if the above would be any good as a replacement! If not the OEM ones will get purchased...

You dont need drilled and grooved for road driving and most uprated pads and discs dont work that well on the road.  The main reason is temperature range. We do most of our driving along raods and then push the brake pedal when they are cold.  Some performacen pads dont bite until they are warmed up.  Drilled and grooved discs are fine for the track but are very noisy.  Id go with a OEM discs and pads as they are more than capable of stopping you.  I know AP brake discs sell brembo discs front and pads which are done to OEM spec.

Yeh I think the only reason I was thinking about these was because I rang the VW Dealer and was told £105 per disk...I'm not even sure that was including VAT or not  :scared:

I fitted pagid disks and pads to my mk 6, same brakes as mk5, they are night and day better than the oem, and not too bad on cost, though i have access to a trade acount at euro car parts. the disks also come grey coated (not braking surface obviously) so no rust either on the bell housing, my oem disks that came with the car looked terrible in this respect. Don't know who makes VW OEM, but pagid make for Porsche so v v good quality supplier. HTH's John
