Sorry to hijack this thread but I was just wondering, after reading the above, if I bought an RNS510 off ebay would I need a new canbus or have it set up with VCDS? My gti is a 2005 manual with the midline dash. Also which version? Is C the newest therefore better? or does it really matter?
Thanks.

If your canbus is K or earlier, you'll need a new one. It's highly likely that a car of this age will have this early canbus. C versions have an LCD screen, you can tell them by the 'star' button on the top right of the unit. Earlier versions have a speaker icon on the button.

It's a VCDS scan, mate.
Early 2007 and earlier usually needs a canbus switch. I think Kalu was talking about being able to flash the software on it rather than physically changing the unit. PM him & ask, he's a top guy, very helpful.
