Cheap Upgrade from MFD2
« on: August 04, 2011, 05:18:50 pm »
I need to get bluetooth and IPod in my 2005 GTI - Ive currently got an MFD2 with an IPod connector that doesn't charge the IPod or show track names etc. I don't want to spend too much money. Here's my options as I see it:

1. Buy a Parrot BT kit. I'm worried about doing this as I think IPod sound quality will make my ears bleed.

2. Buy one of these cheap headunits as a replacement from ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ES878EU-7-VW-Car-DVD-Player-Sat-Nav-TMC-DVB-T-iPod-/320725093848?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item4aacb48dd8

I like that they look OEM and everything is integrated but are they rubbish?

3. Get hold of a reconditioned/used Pioneer AVIC/Kenwood DNX520. A bit more money.

4. Save my pennies and blow 800+ on a reconditioned RNS510 w/bluetooth module.

It seems the RNS route is very popular here. What do you pros think gives the best value? Cheers.

Cheers Demon. Thought that might be the case. Some of them do look quite cheesey!

Would the RNS510 be plug and play into a 2005 GTI or would I need additional cables? Can bus?

You'd need a newer CAN gateway  :happy2:

Around £80 I believe

Cheers guys. What if I went for a Kenwood dnx520 or Pioneer Avic 9210? Would I need the can gateway for them as well?
