Front spoiler / splitter options on a budget?
« on: August 18, 2011, 12:22:36 pm »
Always been a fan of deep chin spoilers on VW's. First mod on my Mk3 GTi's and Vento was always the VR6 splitter. 2 min job, clip off - clip on, 2 parts, loved it  :happy2:

What are the options for a Mk5 (standard gti) bearing in mind my budget is pretty tight? The car sits on 17's and although not lowered I'm happy with the stance from all angles apart from the front. The skirts, front spoiler and rear bumper are colour coded silver which I think gives the visual trick that it's lower than it is.

Quite fancy the VWR spoiler as seen on the racing cars but don't know if this is available to joe public?

Is the Ed30 chin spoiler different to the GTi? I can't really tell any difference  :ashamed:

There are some on ebay too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK5-GTI-FRONT-BUMPER-EXTENSION-LIP-/150642581160?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2312ff5ea8 although I see it's fiberglass. What are the implications of this in terms of painting and durability?

Thanks in advance for any comments guys!

Steve

Slight difference between the GTI and ED30 splitters:

I think its a massive difference, and much better imo.

@ Big Al, I think yours would look excellent if you coded the insert gloss black...... :happy2:

You can modify a leon cupra splitter to fit. Very cheap mod. Do a search on google.

I keep thinking I should change it to a Votex splitter, but the cost is just horrendous on them, £230 with a discount  :surprised:

Thanks Al, I see the difference now. Quite subtle although the ed30 clearly has more 'flare'.

Cheers for the idea Rich, I'd forgotten about that. I had a cupra lip on my Mk1 Octy vRS which was neat.

Anyone had any experience with fibreglass spoilers as per the ebay link above or are they best avoided?
