Norh London Riots. Now spreading to Birmingham apparently.

Watchin sky news, there is a group of vigilanties patroling the streets of Enfield to stop the looting. The guy said we are fed up with the police standing their with their fingers up the arses.    could get interesting if they find any rioters. 

And they would probably get bigger punishments than the rioters they are trying to stop if anything kicked off

They are Kicking off in Wolverhampton at the moment. Not sure to what extent yet but police are dealing with it according to Sky.

They started rioting at about 4pm, could see them winding up for it from about 2pm,
Kind of fizzled out by about 9pm, don't know if it started again after.
We have had our shifts extended to 12 hour days minimum, I was on for 17 hours yesterday and am back on 3pm today.
The rioters did about 15/20 shops in total, (one of them Clintons cards.....?)
Quite a few arrests,probably about 40 before I left.

They really need to close down this blackberry free messaging thing though, free messages to every contact, should be the first thing to stop.

I heard a recording of a girl saying that the rioting was fun and she hoped there was more. I wonder if she'd think the same if someone came round and torched HER house!

I see on the lunchtime BBC News that permission has today been given for both water canon and rubber bullets but that the senior Police guys want to run things "the British way" and not use them unless their officers are under threat of their lives. How pointless is that!! The rioters are miles ahead of the authorities in terms of how their behaviour doesn't conform to the 'rules of engagement'. "Oh, we don't know how to deal with fast moving crowds" < Duh!!

Whatever your opinions are about the people who are doing this, I don't think you can ignore that there is a core problem at the route of this situation. And that's not me being a do-gooder, it's me being a realist.

How would you propose re training 16000 PSU officers to work differently to how they were trained?
