RNS-510 - CD Changer
« on: March 25, 2009, 04:12:32 am »
Morning all,

Can a CD changer be retro fitted to the arm rest of a car installed with the RNS-510 (Touch Screen) Sat Nav?

If so is it easy or a laborious job? And what parts besides the changer would I need?
Cheers,

Wayne

I presume you can, but imo i wouldnt bother as you have that lovely built in hard drive and memory card slot to cram in all your mp3's. I have never used my changer.

Indeed it works with the headunit.  You need to swap a cable round but that only takes a minute.  I have had the unit installed for 2 months and have not used the changer once.  There really isnt any point to be honest unless you want to listen to music without any track names

My car came with the 6-cd changer from the factory with MFD2. Ever since I've fitted my RNS-510 it's been dormant... hdd and sd card sort everything out.
MDI interface is nice though, my brother's rigged up a 40GB mini portable hdd in his Iroc.

I do find the changer quite handy.

Sometimes you get a new CD and wanna whack it in there, until you can be arsed to rip to MP3 etc.
I wish there was a way you could put a CD into the RNS510 and have it auto rip...

My RNS510 CD slot usually has a DVD Video of all my favourite music videos... so I can quickly switch and watch DVDs when I'm stuck on the M25.

I do find the CD changer handy at times... if only to be full to the brim with bad ass tunez which ever source I select....

Works out to £950!!! There was a time when it could be bought for barely £800.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

You can still get them for £650 on ebay, you just have to look around a bit and spot a bargain !!
