Misfire and Flashing EML

For the last few months I've had what I thought was fuel cut.....though always when I wasn't logging  :ashamed:

Power loss when changing from 3-4 and 4-5

Though tonight when i accelerated it jerked a few times and the EML started flashing....eased off and then it went off.

Got home and scan for errors and got -

2 Faults Found:
000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
               P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
             Freeze Frame:

Went and did some runs and got nothing - all normal again.

Had coilpacks changed in the "recall" only a few months ago. Should I be taking this back to VW and letting them sort it, surely this is within a timeframe that they should cough up if it's the coilpacks???

Any ideas?

Same symtoms here on revised coilpacks but German dealer won't
Change them even though covered by 2yr European warranty (bought at Uk dealer)

Take it back and try new coilpacks.  How old are your plugs?

Knackered plug maybe? Take the engine cover off and check the connections are all secure mate. To be honest though yours is doing exactly as mine was when the coil pack failed.

Go out and log block 015 (Misfire counter) to see what coils are affected.
Without traction power is nothing!

Go out and log block 015 (Misfire counter) to see what coils are affected.

Will do this on the way to work.....thanks mate.

Also the plugs are about 3-4 months old.

Bought from Edition 30 Phil on here. Must admit I had the 4 prong plugs before though these are single prong. Not sure that would effect them.

I tried 1 step colder irridium and gave me a missfire ended up needing new coilpack, again :(

Be interested to hear what other plugs people are using.

Currently have a miss fire, plugs only been in 2000miles. Replacing all 4 coils next week, considering doing plugs again at the same time incase faulty coils damaging the Plug.  Don't want to go round in circles with the fault

Well logged this morning and nothing though tonight it's definitely cylinder 2......

Not sure about spark plugs....though will be taking plug out this weekend on c2 so will tell you then.

I had the same happen to my car about 4 weeks ago.  Took it to the dealers and they said they could see the misfire but the fault guidance did not find an issue with any component. 

So nothing has been done under warranty  :sad1:...

In my opinion if it's happened once it will happen again, just a matter of time.  I had my spark plugs changed back in Sept 2010.  Since then I've done around 15K miles without issue... so my initial feeling is that its a coilpack on its way out.

Incidentally, the spark plugs fitted were Denso Iridium Power IK24 and the faults logged were:

Spent a bit of time looking at VCDS and popped up to a local mechnic I know and both point to injector, so looking to replace the injector in C2 to solve it. I'm away until next week now so won't get a chance to sort it for a week. Will let you guys know how I get on.

Finally got around to some investigation work.

Light came on solid last night and read the code and still said misfire on cylinder 2

Swapped the coilpacks on 2 and 3 and went out.

Drives better now  :confused: and very feint misfire.

Logged blocks 15 and 16 and cylinder 2 had a misfire AND cylinder 3.....ARRRGGGHH

Goes into VW on the 31st so they can check the coilpacks as they are covered by warranty. Though might try and run some cooler grade spark plugs as it's remapped and using standard OEM plugs. I know some say you shouldn't need them but other say you should.

Was hoping for bad misfire on 3 so I knew it was the coilpack.....

Will report back end of the week, hopefully it will return so I can pinpoint the problem.

Yes.....had to pop in £10 of standard unleaded at sainsburys and an Esso....had a feeling it might be that so brimmed it with Vpower as usual and will plan better in future and not get caught short.
