Paint quality / standard of cars on VW approved used

Hi all

I've been toying with swapping my Audi RS4 for a Golf Edition 30. I love the RS4, but the running costs are pretty high and at the moment I've got a few better things I could do with the amount of capital tied up in it.

Anyway, drove over to Colbournes Guildford yesterday to look at an Ed30 they had there.  Got there to find out they'd traded it out because when they put it into their workshop they found it needed a lot spending on it.  This was an 07 car with 51k miles.

Anyway, while I was waiting I was having a look at a brand new scirocco in the showroom, and the paint was showing quite bad orange peel.

Took a test drive of a normal GTI with dsg box whilst I was there - and got to say it drove very nicely - 36k miles one in red.

So today I went to Beadles in Dartford to look at an 07 Ed30 they've got which has done 46k miles.  It was manual and drove nicely, and was only up for £12,500.  However, the state of the bodywork was pretty shocking for a main dealer car - the passenger rear quarter had been repainted (bad orange peel again and a distinct masking line inside the door shut), the passenger front door's been painted (complete with a small sag in the paint, neither front door aligned properly with their respective front wing / rear door, and the driver's seat bolster was quite worn.  Now I know it's cheap, but even so.......
