Air con woes
« on: August 14, 2011, 09:25:56 am »
Hi all, not really used my aircon in my car since I got it a few months ago as not had great weather up here in Scotland but had it on yesterday and it doesn't seem to work too well.  I was trying to get it blowing COLD air but it would only manage slightly cool air, even with me trying it at either the lowest temperature or at LO on the dial.  Does anyone have any ideas whether this will be just a case of requiring a recharge or could it be more indicative of something more serious with the compressor or something else in the system?

Cheers all in advance.

I have the same issue with mine and unfortunately it seems to be a very common problem in Mk5's. It might just need a re-gas or it could be more serious i.e. the compressor is knackered. The compressor that VW put in Mk5's is notorious for failing sooner or later and is very expensive to replace. Hopefully you'll just need a re-gas - I'm also hoping that's all I'll need too. If the compressor is gone you have to ask yourself is it really a justifiable expense for the 20 or so days a year you'll need it? Good luck.

i had this issue upon till 2 weeks ago, took it to kwik fit got the recharge or no charge deal £49 and now it works a treat, icy cold happy days  if you think about the number of compressors that have gone faulty to the number of mk5's made i bet its not even 5% failure rate, take it for a re-gas i'm sure it will cure the problem :happy2:

Mine has been refilled three times in a row now and each only lasts 2 weeks of pure iceness.

Doubt I will fix it though because it is a lot of money to shell out for what I might use a handfull of times till next summer.

My car came with the Winter pack not the Summr pack
