To access the controller, turn the steering wheel 90 degrees each way to expose 2 x torx screws, there is a third screw underneath in the recess where the rake and reach lever is.

Close but there is a little more to it than that.  Hence why most people suggest using VCDS where available.   

I think Awesome or probably acting on the side of caution with their suggestion that a MFSW is required it is more correct to suggest that if a MFSW is fitted you have a better chance of not needing a replacement steering controller.

Really, that's all I did to confirm the steering control part number on my vRS, granted I confirmed the additional numbers via VCDS purely because the vRS was the 'BC' number, the same as the Golf which shouldn't technically have worked according to Rosstech wiki.....

If you were to sit rotating the steering wheel all day long you wouldn't see the two Torx screws that hold the lower shroud in place until you've lifted the upper shroud 

I'm not sure if you can get it that way with the Golf steering wheel, it's not something I've tried personally.

Well in going to get it done, so if it needs it, it needs it. Going to book in with awesome tomorrow. Any recommendations with a filters also quite fancy one of those oval ones

Ok, so I missed a minor step...... 

I can confirm that ONCE you remove the top cover then turn the wheel 90 degrees you can access the screws on the Golf, I've done it!

sorry to bring up an old thread but i want cruise on my 08 ED30 what part number for the cruise stalk will i need and should it be just simple coded and done? or do i need to look at the steering module number too?

Should be a straight fit and code on an '08 mate, it was on my '07 GT, and '06 vRS.

If there aren't any available in the for sale area, they can be had for decent money on eBay. Be aware that if you go for a used one, it may work for a while then show gremlins. One of mine did that, but it was a simple case of opening the stalk and cleaning the circuit board with electrical cleaner. The other alternative - if you are near - is to PM Eddie_NL, he supplies, fits and codes for a ton!?

cheers but ill buy from the dealer can get good discounts from there :) and have someone who can do the coding for me too :) will need some other bits coding too so will get it done together, any idea what the RRP is for the stalk?
