There's something oddly appealing about the Mk2. I have fond memories of building with a friend one with a 1.8t and ATB, and surprising the hell out of people on road and track.

I'd quite fancy putting a tfsi (qpeng plug and play kit) into one now...........

That would be immense!!! A TFSI in a Mk2 Golf shell would shift on!

I know a guy who is installing one into a Corrado shell at the minute.

A friend of a friend (Ben Leach), has had a tfsi in a mk2 gti for the past year and a bit, coupled to a mkv 6-speed gearbox (the one from the 6 speed 2 litre fsi, not gti), and by all acounts it's a great laugh.

I've done a K04 (mapped to 270bhp) in a Corrado with Quaiffe ATB, 4-pots, with suspension mods, and that was a hoot. Possibly not quite as stealthy as the Golf, as folk seem to expect the Corrado to have some go to it (even though a VR6 / G60 is really very limp).

Fun times....

Anyhow, I'd best not distract from Alex's thread any further!

Best get this back on track.....

Fair play to you there. Thats an awful lot of work :congrats:. I had a mk1 gti and sold it on when the bills got too high. It just didnt work out as a daily driver for me. I did love it though.

Cheers guys.

Little update for today....

Had to replace the ARB drop links that mount into the wishbone as they were well past being usable, and corrected the balls up the garage made that fitted the new wishbones as they didn't put a spacer sleeve in, causing the wishbone to knock around - great job they did there NOT!!

Picked up a new bonnet off ebay and fitted it today. Its in much better condition than the previous, but I still DA'd it followed by sealant and wax to keep the shine locked in!

Must say it looks a damn sight better than it did as you can see...







The project continues!!

Theres still a slight knock on the drivers wishbone (i think) so ill have to whip it all off again on the weekend and see whats going on!

I let my bro' have a play in my car last night and had to do a double-take when I clocked a certain shiny black mk2! Looks good.

Did you knock out the stock wishbone bushes and fit polyurethane? Did that, and seam welded them, on the 1.8t I did with a friend. Really improved front end precision, and reduced torque steer.

Nope. Complete replacement wishbones with oem bushes as I wanted to keep the ride comfort and it's past the point where I'd race around in it!!

Poverty spec silver 07 GTI.

Saw the car parked in the driveway, as driving down LGLR, and had an "eh up...isn't that..?" moment.

We didn't find the swap from GSF rubber to be too harsh, but the dubious quality of the GSF bushes was a constant frustration - the car ate them, even as a stock valver.
