Hi to you all.

I'm interested in buying a gti. The car in question is a 2007 with 46k miles.
Now, I have an issue with the service history. In 2009 there is no service. 2008 yes and then 15k miles later in 2010. Now, to me that would have inalidated the warranty. Would this put any of you from buying the car?
At the moment it does for me.

When I bought my car a couple of years back it was on long life, now switched to time/distance (10k basically) as suits the type of driving I do

Simple answer is no wouldn't put me off - just check was service plan it was on

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It depends on what sort of service regime its been on. If its on a longlife service pattern then I believe it can go for 20k miles before needing its next service. Otherwise its 12 months/1 year. A service at 15k seems a bit odd by that reference. Also bear in mind that the 60k service is a pricier one!

All GTIs should be on time/distance servicing rather than longlife which is what the previous owner probably used.

Isn't the warranty only for 3 years anyway? First two being VW's and the third year being the dealers? You can extend these with third party companies, but they tend not to be worth the paper they are written on.

How can I establish this? The dealer network can't even piece together the services that have been done or who even sold the car. I have dug around and found all this myself.
The dealer (independant garage) has supplied me with the service book now and confirmed all.

My point was that by missing the 2009 service the original owner may have invalidated the warranty. Something I find so strange that I'm wondering if a) a service was carried out but not stamped by the dealer, or b)was a long life service in 2008, so no service until 2010.

Warranty doesn't bother me now on the car. I'm not a fan of warranty companies but they did cover the turbo replacement in my ML320 (about £3k) so they arn't all bad.

In the service booklet you can see what type of oil they used so if correctly filled in they would have ticked long life.y car also has a sticker under the bonnet on the front panel saying long life oil

Just had a look and the 2008 service states, no to long life oil used. It also says that the next service should be carried out in April 2009 or at 23247. It wasn't carried out until March 2010 at 28247. Why would someone mess it up like that?
Again would this put someone off buying the car?

You have to use a hosting site, such as photobucket/imageshack.

Missed services are not good. Personally I would only buy a car with a full service history, be that main dealer or independent.

Yeah, looking at the book again it appears to have 2 stamps in 2010 within days of each other. I nt make out the stamp. It's now looking a bit sus to me.
One thing, the dealers really are crap, they seem to only be able to view the work that they have done and no one else. I've called 4 different vw dealers trying to piece this together. As normal, very little help.

I'll be giving it a miss. Real shame as it was a 5 dr in White, really would like that.
