« on: August 14, 2011, 07:40:47 pm »
Hi I had my gti mk5 in awesome gti for a full engine service last tuesday and I've just noticed I've got a print out stapled to the back of my my service bill.THe Ross tech diagnostics print out shows 3 faults I new nothing about I've had no engine management light come up and the lad who serviced the  car from awesome didn't mention the faults to me.                             The 3 faults are 012403-fuel pump circuit electrical malfunction p3073-004-no signal communication.                                       2nd fault 005425-camshaft timing adjustment open circuit p1531-004-no signal/communication-intermittent.                           3rd fault 000818-knock sensor 2 (g66): signal too low p0332-002- lower limit exceeded intermittent.                                       I've had  no power loss everything is how it's always been running fine

Not all fault codes illuminate the CEL/MIL.

As an example it will normally say so in the fault description -

Quote from: Ross Tech
008851 -  Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Mechanical Malfunction
               P2293 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent - MIL ON
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 10100010
                    Fault Priority: 0
                    Fault Frequency: 8
                    Mileage: 3641 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2006.06.30
                    Time: 08:10:39

             Freeze Frame:
                    RPM: 626 /min
                    Load: 44.7 %
                    Speed: 0.0 km/h
                    Temperature: 86.0°C
                    Temperature: 45.0°C

They may have cleared the faults but personally I would get the car vcds scanned asap to see if they have re-appeared.
Without traction power is nothing!

do you need all these programs like vcds to do scans on the cars or can you just get one of them cables off of ebay?

There are some standalone units (can use withou laptop) on ebay that some say are quite good.  The best soloution I think is VCDS and OBDII cable as it alows detailed logging of the cars behaviour / faults.

i supose, guess you need to have an understanding of all the codes and sections and what changes to make to make the systems do what you want! this is what would happen if i tried it:  :fighting2: lol
